It's past midnight, but Josephine doesn't look like she has noticed. She is still bent over a traveling-desk, writing letters by candlelight. The peculiar thing is that she never seems to pause to consider how something should be worded, or correct herself, or throw a page away to start anew. Every first draft seems to say exactly what she wants it to say.
