He refrained once more from running his free hand through his hair. It helped that it was mostly collected back in a ponytail, but for the inevitable locks that escaped and framed his face over time. "Hamaji-chan used to like us to bring in anything useful we found out in the forests... do you have any suggestions in what to look out for? I'm not used to the plants around here. None of them are quite like anything I recognise back home."
He'd make the effort as long as there was someone who cared for the end result. It gave him another focus when he was out there; likewise, while he'd doubtlessly grumble and whine about weeding, he'd still do it, especially to stave off loneliness and solitude. Those were things he wanted nothing to do with. It made it difficult to breathe.

Not that he'd tried to so far... too much else to do that didn't involve feeling like he was calling back to days where he was read to at his bedside, too sick to even keep his eyes open to read on his own.
