After Kain lost all sense of self, after Ciri vanished in battle only to resurface with red lyrium infected eyes, she's run herself ragged tracking and researching. The chance that either of them could be cured is virtually nil, but it's not in her to do nothing. Hopefully that overzealousness hasn't sapped her strength to the point where she can't do what needs to be done now.
