It's likely that they're fake - there are many so-called 'relics' that turn out to be nothing more than trinkets with Dalish markings scraped on them to make them appear realistic - but the idea that there might be something real out there is too much for him to ignore. He can look into the matter and liberate those things that might be somewhat real.
