Short term, I'd love for Thane to try to learn how to be friends with people. It's hard, and he really only knows one person in the Inquisition.

Him flinging himself into danger and getting disappointed that he survived it.

He could help train your character in the ancient art of neck snapping and stabbing.

For him to start to regret the idea of dying because he cares about the relationships he's gaining maybe??

Or be his rival/enemy, if you can manage it. Thane is complacent in his servitude and heavily Andrastian. Maybe that ruffles your feathers who knows.
