OKAY WELL thanks to Liz I already have 20+ song monstrosities of playlists for all my characters, so here is the full one. Most of it deals with themes of wanderlust, doubt, and atonement.

1. Peter Bradley Adams -- The Longer I Run

Tell my brother please not to look for me
I ain't the man that I used to be
And if my savior comes, could you let him know
I've gone away for to save my soul

Just sort of a reference to how he fled Kirkwall the first time because he didn't want to be a part of what the templars were doing there, but now he's left the majority of the Order behind and is sort of on another journey to atone for that cowardice. In both cases, he left because of what his conscience was telling him, just in very different ways.

2. Mumford and Sons -- Hopeless Wanderer

I wrestled long with my youth
We tried so hard to live in the truth
But do not tell me all is fine
When I lose my head, I lose my spine

same general vein. "I fucked up when I was younger, now I want to fix it."

3. Keane -- Perfect Symmetry

Write page after page of analysis
Looking for the final score
We're no closer than we were before
Who are you? What are you fighting for?
Holy truth? Brother, I choose this mortal life
Lived in perfect symmetry
What I do, that will be done to me

Just kind of a song about his doubts and his less conventional approach to being a templar, these days.

1. Radical Face -- Black Eyes

When you last left me my blood was in a jar
And you kept it on your mantelpiece
I couldn’t count on anyone to stand there behind me
And keep the dogs from dragging me off with them

A good mage song, I think, but especially for one who feels so betrayed to have been brought to the Circle in the first place. The "blood in a jar" makes me think of phylacteries.

(also becomes horrifying if you think of it as being addressed to Myr, because the chorus is "my heart will be blacker than your eyes when I'm through with you.")

2. Lord Huron -- Meet Me in the Woods

I took a little journey to the unknown
And I come back changed, I can feel it in my bones
I fucked with forces that our eyes can't see
Now the darkness got a hold on me

Follow me into the endless night
I can bring your fears to life

In a literal sense, it's just kind of an entropy mage theme song, but it also works in the sense that it's about how Van's time in the Hinterlands changed and traumatized him.

3. Donna Lynne Champlin -- Face Your Fears

If a bear runs at you in the woods, don’t run away
Look it deep in the eyes, put your hand on its chest and say “Bear, I’m not afraid!”
If you’re in a burning building and smoke is everywhere
Keep calm, take a deep breath, and stay right there

adalia quite literally sold her soul — but also she is constantly terrified, doing terrible things in order to try to set other people up to do good, slowly losing track of herself and her earnest desire to help. all she wants is to belong, but she keeps cutting off parts of herself to try to help others who mock and deride her.

adalia has always wanted to be something more than she really is, something more interesting or worthy or likable. now it doesn't matter what she wants to be, because what she is is... pretty shit! good people don't sell their souls, guys.

(if you see light by the mountain goats didn't fit my playlist ~aesthetic~ but it's basically perfect so)

For sound, very ethereal, dreamy, Celtic sounding music. I already have a few from Lord of the Rings on there to give you an idea.

For sound, I veered slightly towards French with the Amelie soundtrack, but overall either female singers or men with classical voices like Josh Groban. IDK, it just fit well?

(Also, I have a Church/Christine playlist because I'm shipper trash. If you have any songs about slowly creeping in feelings or trying to deny feelings, that would be cool.) ~~Look, I know Bootylicious is on there and it's because Church called her that once. I HAD TO, OKAY?~~

I've added some songs to it since last I organized it but there's some thematic groupings in there (personal involvement in the Rebellion, his very difficult relationship with Van, faith vs doubt).
