Party Banter Meme

In the Dragon Age games, as you travel Thedas with your best pals, they have a lot of short conversations about politics, the weather, butts, etc. So this is the Fade Rift equivalent, in four easy steps!

1. Imagine your characters are on a very long walk toward a mission objective, or on a very long walk back after kicking ass, or standing guard together, or gathering herbs, or working in the library late at night, or something. Anything sort of boring that might make people want to have a dumb conversation just to break things up a bit.

OPTIONAL ASSISTANT: Since so many people reported being out of it, we made a random generator to help you come up with some general banter prompts for your top-levels.

2. Post a few remarks your character might say (similar to TFLN, except spoken out loud and less ridiculous and sexy, maybe. maybe not. we don’t know your life) while passing the time.

3. Tag around to reply to those general remarks or to start new/wildcard conversations! Threads should be pretty short and involve minimal action; there’s no need to turn anything into a big production. Multiperson threads are encouraged. Series of conversations between the same two characters occurring on different days are also encouraged.

4. Gather up all of your little conversation snippets like a bouquet and keep them forever, because they’re game canon. Banter threads can't be used for Base AC, but do count towards AC Rewards points.

Ah. How Nevarran of you.

You think it foolish?
bouchonne: (amused and nonfacetious)

[personal profile] bouchonne 2020-03-30 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Immensely. Fear of death is the strongest power in the world.

That's reassuring.

[ Extremely noncommittal. ]

We could walk closer to the riverbed, if you aren't concerned about the mud.

If you like. I've my field boots on today.

[And for all her pretense with respect to absolutely everything else under the sun, she is perfectly willing to hike up the edge of her skirts with all its under layers and shove them between her side and cinched waist belt to keep them out of the muck.

(He isn't courting her anymore, and so is unlikely to expire from repressed desire should her calves in their bright blue stockings be on display.)]

There'll be less rocks by the riverbed.

[ Though Ellis considers the likelihood of something falling into the river, and vows vigilance. Or least, a passing attentiveness.

He does not expire at the sight of her calves. ]

If there's a bear, you're to take cover, [ he reminds, because bear attacks are preferable than conversations that edge ever more expectantly towards song. ] They're easily driven off, most of the time.

[And so there are - less rocks. Even better: she takes the bait.]

I'll have you know that I'm perfectly acquainted with the handling of wild animals, Mr. Ellis. My family kept house in the country.
libratus: (god knows that I've tried)

[personal profile] libratus 2020-03-30 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it? [ Like Byerly is trying to explain the power of the wind to a fish. ] Does it guide you so very much?
bouchonne: (considering)

[personal profile] bouchonne 2020-03-30 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Maker, yes. I've sacrificed many, many things for the sake of my life. And would sacrifice many more.
libratus: (out of luck)

[personal profile] libratus 2020-03-30 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Why?

-Not that I don't believe there are reasons, of course, but which ones trouble you?
bouchonne: (fuckboy)

[personal profile] bouchonne 2020-03-30 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? Because the purpose of life is to perpetuate itself. Because when one is faced with the prospect of one's doom, one feels an overwhelming, irresistible terror that leads to a single desire that cannot be resisted. Have you never felt that, Speaker?

I am perhaps an atypical example.

Really? Never?
libratus: (and if we die)

[personal profile] libratus 2020-03-31 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ An equivocal head-bob, ] The occasional ripple of doubt, perhaps, but mostly what I've felt is relief.

Ah, I know what some of those are for. Embrium clears the lungs.

[ A frequent scent in his childhood home, when things were good enough for them to afford fresh herbs—not that he's nostalgic. It's just how he knows. ]

And elfroot is for—everything. Whatever is troubling you. Put some elfroot on it.

...Then we should have gathered more elfroot.

Of course. But some people will improve more quickly with the same amount of practice. Or they have some intuition about what to do without being told.

Absolutely.

[ Always. ]

Is it true that you once faced the infamous brigand Herbert Compere and his gang on the road to Montsimmard, but the horses saw you for who you were and refused to charge? I heard that the riders had to dismount and come at you on foot while the horses waited respectfully to the side.

[ Can't believe he gets to help a skull romance a seneschal. ]

I could dig them up at the root and we could put them in pots so he has to tend to them forever.

threadjacks without apology!!

He could also be incredibly tall. Perhaps he has been accused of being part giant and it has made him sensitive.

Oh, you spent a lot of time fending off ferocious bears?
