PARTY BANTER MEME

In the Dragon Age games, as you travel Thedas with your best pals, they have a lot of short conversations about politics, the weather, butts, etc. So this is the Fade Rift equivalent, in four easy steps!

1. Imagine your characters are on a very long walk somewhere, or on a very long walk back after kicking ass, or standing guard together, or gathering herbs, or working in the library late at night, or anything else sort of boring. You can provide context if you'd like, like "[ On the way back from Antiva: ]," but it isn't mandatory.

2. Post a few different remarks your character might make—similar to TFLN, except spoken out loud and less ridiculous, maybe, or maybe not, I don’t know your life—while passing the time.

3. Tag around to reply to those general remarks or to start new/wildcard conversations! Threads should be pretty short and involve minimal action; there’s no need to turn anything into a big production. Threadjacking to create multiperson conversations is encouraged (unless someone says not to). Multiple different conversations between the same characters occurring on different days are also encouraged.

4. Gather up all of your little conversation snippets like a bouquet and keep them forever, because they’re game canon.

I just... feel like I have to fill in her shoes and I don't really know how to do that.

[ Glimmer nods, leans into Ellie a little more as if to reassure her. Or perhaps because she wants reassurance. ]

I know. I... still have some of you rattling around in here, you know?

[ She points to her own head. She misses it sometimes, the strange intimacy of being able to just understand someone else with a touch. It's kind of a relief to be able to hold her friend's bare hand though. ]

Both of you have lost a lot of people, too.

Probably my least favorite thing in every universe I've been to so far.

[ Gross. Paperwork. ]

[ What if they were dead? What if they didn't need her anymore? What if, what if, what if...? ]

'Kay. (Then, muttered,) Deep breath, Abby. (She's talking to herself, don't worry about it.) It could be worse.

(It could be... so much fucking worse. Maybe she should be thankful for Lev and the sky bridges for being so ungodly awful that nothing else will ever come close in comparison?? Yeah, right. She follows Laura steadily, copying her holds.)

Is it far? (Her voice only wobbles a tiny bit.)

Cool. (River can get a grin out of Abby like no other,) C'mon then.

Oh, come now - It’s everyone’s thing.

[ He’s being less saucy and more sincere. ]

I’m not talking about looking pretty, mind - unless you find you enjoy that - Rather, playing with clothes lets you play with your place in the world. There are days when I want to feel a bit more manly, for example, and so by strategically selecting my clothes, I can make others see me as such.

(She's listening as he explains but she's got a scrunch to her expression that betrays a misunderstanding. Abby's used to choosing clothes for their practicality first and foremost. She's gone for particular kinds of shirts and pants when she can, but she's never thought of that as 'playing with her place in the world'. She tries to find lace-up boots when she's looking for new shoes because she likes them best, that's all.)

... Okay. (She has a good look at what he's wearing.) What did you want to say with this outfit?

(To Abby, he looks 'nice'. Tidy.)

[armd]

Okay, okay.

(Relenting,) I don't count mine either. I'm- not good at falling asleep.

[muckspout]

Later now? Does it hurt now?

[pause.]

it's a lot of blood.

[muckspout]

[An indignant huff.]

But tea is not simple at all! It is like coffee just--leaves. and flowers sometimes.

[muckspout]

[Eyes wide, repeats in awe.]

Sparkles!

Anyway, shouldn't listen to what people say around here. Everyone's a grump. They don't even like [again the awed tone as if he's never heard this word before. Maybe he hasn't.] sparkles!

[bouchonne]

[ He looks down, frowns thoughtfully, and declares: ]

“I’m effete enough not to be a threat, but I still have serious goals.”

[Ellie's face softens a bit.]

Glad you know that. A lot of people don't.

(Shrug.) It took up a lot of my time.

Probably gonna keep doing the yoga though.
