Hermione would have almost hoped that he had commented on her hesitation, since at least it would have quickly gotten rid of the burning question of what he was. But that wouldn't be proper, and he seemed nice enough, so she would let that go for now. In the end, it wouldn't matter except to help stifle her curiosity.

"That's your raven?" she asked, clearly pleased. At least she'd have some answer as to how these messenger birds worked. "We use owls, where I'm from. They're bigger and stronger, and by the looks of it, easier to train. Are all the ravens around here messenger birds? I need to get a message out - though I should probably work on figuring out where I am, first, since it wouldn't do to send messages to all my friends just to say that I'm lost and not give them any way to come find me."

She was looking for the raven with the note attached to it, really. She was just rambling as she did so. At least Hermione had the good grace to realize that she was blathering on, and she paused to smile sheepishly. "Sorry. I've had a very strange day. Is there any special trick to getting your raven back to you? A treat it likes, perhaps?"
