Inquisition did not sound good, or at least to Kirk it did not. But then, in the context of Earth History, it was not a pleasant time, a warning now against religious fanaticism and abuse of power. That didn't mean it was the same here, but the look on the man's face suggested it wasn't universally thought of in a good light. He would need to tread lightly.

"I was told it was a place to go to get answers," he said by way of explanation, hoping that would set his companion at ease and not start unpleasantness later. In his lap he pressed his thumb against the green gem in his palm, hidden beneath his glove, the flesh still sore where it had been embedded.

"And if you're walking?" he asked, because he doubted he could afford a horse. He might be able to somehow barter for supplies, and unless there were towns between here and Skyhold, he would need to camp. Hopefully he remembered everything from survival training... "Are there more towns between here and Skyhold?"
