The lightning does seem to do the job, though. Beleth, being a big fan of not having a half-dead bear on her hands, decides to make sure of it, and lobbies a handful of arrows at the bear, shooting them off in a rapid succession. It's only when she's sure that the bear is dead, that she puts down her bow. ]
...I think the bears here are meaner than in the Free Marches. It must be the cold.
