The AU Meme!
Ever wanted to play your character as a student at Hogwarts, or in modern day? This meme is for you to get a chance to talk about / rp your characters in alternate universes!
How to play:
How to play:
- Pick an AU (feel free to pick more than one!)
- Post your character in that AU, containing some kind of description of them and maybe some prompt ideas??
- Reply to other people's posts with your character AU'd into one of the ones they've provided
- Have fun rping!
- College
- Fandoms
- Historical Time Periods
- Coffee Shop
- Space
- Post-Apocalypse
- Supernatural
- Trespasser / Fade Rift in THE FUTURE
- The Inquisitor / Companions
- Whatever you desire
Who doesn't love crippling debt, stress ulcers, and living on ramen? This AU features your character living life on a college campus. Are they a student, or a professor? What subjects and degrees are they interested in? Any clubs? What's their reputation on campus? You're only limited by your student loans!
This is a general catchall for other forms of media. Your character, in the universe of any other fandom you can think of! What Harry Potter house would they be in? What would be their daemon? Would they be a tribute, a mentor, or a Capitolite in Panem, and what district would they hail from? What alien race from Mass Effect would they belong to? If it's a different canon, it's up for grabs here!
This is a very broad term for a very broad range of time periods and locations. Picture your character in regency-era England, the American wild west, or have your character be the next Highlander. Hell, you can have your character grab a disco ball and be a member of the 70s, if you want. Any time period is up for grabs! And don't be too worried about historical accuracy, it's a meme. Just blame it on Thedas. Or Anders.
The quintessential AU. There's a shop. It sells coffee. Your character is involved in this shop, some how. A barista, a customer, the starving musician they hired to play, or that weirdo in the corner that mutters about aliens. Just get your character inside the coffee shop somehow.
The final frontier! Space is the place and your character is a member of the galactic community. They can be on a ship headed to the frontier, set to pioneer mysterious alien worlds, carting around cargo from world to world, part of the military protecting these
adventurers, or nefarious space pirates, raiding these people to meet your own needs.
The world is dead! Whoops. Well, not entirely dead. Not out of lack of effort, though. Zombies or global warming or hordes of blood-thirsty nugs have caused civilization to decline, and your character is left squatting in the ruins of what once was. Are they alone, left in a struggling community, or even some kind of city? Just try not to break the world. Again.
Not the TV show. We're talking any kind of mythological creatures that you can imagine. Mermaids, centaurs, dryads, werewolves, vampires, your character can be any kind of fantastic creature you can imagine. Or alternatively, your character could be a normal person who hunts these mythological creatures, for whatever reason. Or even just a normal person who has found themselves suddenly friends with a dragon (go away, Hawke).
It's been a few years since Corypheus died. And you survived it! Horray! What does your character do now? This doesn't need to be strictly based on Fade Rift canon, if you want multiple options for how your character fares afterwards. It's an AU! Feel free to have them be married and have ten kids or the Empress of Orlais or whatever. Or just have them alive, if that's an AU in itself.
Your character, in DA:I proper! But there's a switch--Maybe they're the one who attended the conclave and fell out of the rift with an anchor attached to their hand. Or maybe it's their turn to be a companion, becoming one of the Inquisitor's inner circle. Mix up the roles and enjoy the spotlight--or stepping out of it.
Don't let me boss you around. You have an AU you want to play that I didn't suggest? Do it anyway! There's infinite universes out there, after all. Go crazy!
Beleth Ashara
[[tw drug use/drinking]]
Beleth is a regular face on campus, particularly well known as one of the founders of the Dalish Heritage Club, dedicated to helping members of the People on campus, remembering the old ways, and prodding the college staff if they start to step on any cultural toes. It's not surprising that she's pursuing a degree in social services, with the desire to become a social worker dedicated to helping out Dalish children that the human-based support systems have forgotten.
She'd probably be a pain in the side of the school if she wasn't so good at politely and diplomatically airing whatever complaints she might have.
What might be more surprising is that the seemingly perfect example of a Dalish woman has thin, almost invisible stress cracks in her facade. For those in the know, Beleth can often be found at any number of the regular parties thrown on campus, discretely purchasing alcohol, or other narcotics that help to ebb away some of the anxiety she faces. It's not easy to hold yourself up to an exacting standard that few people could realistically stand up to, and it takes its toll on the Dalish woman.
Feel free to find her studying, wandering the campus, in class, or in one of those illicit parties.
Supernatural: Mermaids/Sirens
Beleth isn't sure why she's supposed to sing men to their doom, but it's her job, and if you have a job, you ought to do it well. If she had to guess, she would suppose it was for safety--she's never spoken to a man before, but from what she's seen, and the rumors she's heard, they all seem to be a rather violent sort. So she keeps them away from the mermaid colony by singing. It's just how it's always been done.
She's easy enough to spot, she's made sure of that. If her long, flowing purple tail doesn't catch your eye, or if it's too dark to see it, then her glowing green tattoos ought to do the job. Visibility is important, so the men steer their boats into the reefs that wait them below the water. If that doesn't work, she has to drown them, which is a huge mess, and she tries to avoid it, if possible.
Possible options for interaction is other sirens chatting, or a person managing to swim to the island after their ship going down, or maybe you're just a person that Beleth wouldn't try to drown? Whatever works for you!
Other: Orlesian Noble AU
Lady Bella Mercier was never intended to be the heir to the Mercier estates. She was born after her twin brother, and thus shuffled off to the Chantry at a young age. However, she had not been permitted to take any vows, just in case need ever arose to tap the auxiliary child for taking over. This proved a wise move on the part of her mother, the Comtesse de Mercier, when the heir disappeared off the face of Thedas. Rumors abound of what happened to him, the favorite being that he ran off with a tal-vashoth mercenary, but whatever the cause, it ended with Bella being pulled from the Chantry and made the heir.
Opinions on Lady Bella are usually fairly positive--she is exceedingly polite and well-spoken. But there is the unspoken fact that she is proving to be a ruthless player of the game. Blackmail, bribery, straight out false rumors are all tools she plies with ease, and there are rumors of enemies meeting mysterious deaths. But that's probably just a coincidence.
Ever an opportunist, she has spotted the potential of the Inquisition to help her in her social climbing, and came to Skyhold to observe and offer her aid. She can be found in various places in Skyhold--often where she's not wanted--poking her nose into things that are not her business, and generally being an overtly religious, noble, Orlesian nuisance.
Trespasser / Fade Rift in THE FUTURE

Ellana
Ellana is a Hufflepuff who was orphaned at age eight. She kicked around foster homes until her letter arrived, and she is allowed to spend summers at the school, living there full time. Her favorite classes are Care of Magical Creatures and Charms. She's an Animagus who can become a sparrow, and her Patronus is a red fox. She has a lot of school spirit and can be seen at every Quidditch match. Ellana isn't entirely sure what she wants to do after school, but thinks maybe something to do with seeking out new species of magical creatures, or documenting ancient magical sites.
She can be found in class, at the library, Great Hall, Quidditch match, or down by Hagrid's hut helping him take care of the animals.
{ supernatural au }
Ellana is a mermaid who desperately wants to know what life on the surface is like. She often disobeys the rules and pokes her head up above the surface of the water to see what's going on in the world above. Each day, she ventures closer and closer to the port city, watching ships come and go.
Is she saving your character who fell off their ship? Did she venture too close to a ship and the crew netted her and hauled her aboard? Or is yours a mermaid too, and they're having a conversation about Ellana's desires for life out of the sea?
Christine
Christine is a Ravenclaw and also Head Girl because she's an overachiever. Her favorite classes are Transfigurations and Charms. She's a little stuffy and snooty, but she's okay once you get to know her. She excels in all her classes and is almost never without a book or a quill and parchment for note taking. Her Patronus is a sea otter. Christine assists Madam Pomfrey and already knows she's going to be a mediwitch after leaving school.
She can be found in the library, the Great Hall, sitting down by the lake taking notes, or in Pomfrey's domain, tending to sick and injured students.
Inessa Serra
Inessa would be a muggle-born human Ravenclaw, and a (most likely) a prefect who excels at DADA and Charms. That person who's always in the library, either tutoring other students or reading just for fun? Yeah, that's her. She isn't completely sold on future careers yet, but is likely to become a teacher or Auror. Her Patronus is a dog that looks suspiciously like a mabari but isn't, because this isn't Dragon Age and I'm too tired to look stuff up. Her likely haunt is the library, but she can be found just about anywhere that isn't the Quidditch pitch.
Korrin
Korrin survived the Inquisition's battle against Corypheus. She'd likely want to return to the Valo-Kas, taking a few select people with her who expressed a desire to join beforehand. She's still happy with Araceli, who maybe acts as their diplomat/bard? But they take frequent downtime trips to Antiva/Rivain, where they can get away with boob-slings and Korrin's grandma will make enough to feed an army. May or may not adopt kids in the future, but give at least several years and whenever Araceli's ready. Said kids have to be old enough to poo on their own. No exceptions.
Inquisitor Korrin
All the info for that is right here.
Kain Highwind
Kain is a Slytherin, basically the Malfoy to Golbez's Snape and Cecil's Harry. He'd be a pureblood snob, especially at first, but then he'd get to know Cecil and Rosa and become a better person. Unfortunately, he has his fall to the dark side in this AU, becoming a death eater for a time, and falling under the Imperius Curse. His favorite class is Care of Magical Creatures, and as he still looooves dragons, he definitely grows up to work with them. He's awesome in the air on a broomstick and is a Beater for the Quidditch team.
Historical
A Renaissance era knight who's awesome with a lance! (Probably even a literal dragoon, since that's a real world thing, mounted cavalry among other meanings). He's renowned as a champion in jousting. Family crest is, surprise surprise, a dragon. He dies dramatically and tragically of wounds sustained in battle.
Isn't that the way of all Kain AUs though???Dragon Age AU
Not the Inquisitor, but a Grey Warden, who really loves griffons and wants one of his own. He grew up in Orlais, and although urged to join the Templars like Cecil, he chose the Warden path to be like his father. He's still a Reaver, of course. He's in love with a spirit healer, Rosa. He also was controlled at some point by blood magic and forced to do terrible things for which he's still repenting.
I also have an AU for him as the Warden from Origins, but it really needs to be fleshed out more. He does end up dying against the Archdemon, though.
Trespasser
Deeeeeaaaad!
For real, though he dies against Corypheus. So in the AU he probably dies stupidly way before that final battle!
