MAGEBANE TRAINING
At this point I mainly need 2-3 candidates to lead said training -- ideally folks the Chantry would otherwise approve of, if there's anyone the Chantry would approve of who would also be willing to do this thing.
IC suitability will matter a lot since it's controversial in every direction, so if there are more volunteers than spots that's how I'll decide, but again: this may not even get approved, and if it does there will be more opportunities for participation in the future.
If you just want to stick your face here to express enthusiasm in the meantime that's fine too.

ELEVATOR PITCH: What if you took a teenage girl and gave her claws? And instead of sending her to school, you raised her to be an assassin and basically denied her all but the barest minimum of affection and real-world training? Laura's a little feral, not a great talker, very good at stabbing. She just learned what a Circle was, if that gives you an idea of how far removed she's been from regular society.
NB: Laura's background includes some very upsetting material, so please hit up her permissions post if you need to opt out of anything. Please also hit it up if you'd like her to be able to smell your character!

NOT A LOT OF DETAIL YET but we'll see. She's on Forces atm, and I'd love to do more with that, but she's also easily left rudderless, because she is really, really not used to deciding how to spend her time. So coming up with more concrete shit for her to be doing would be awesome.
PURSUITS: She enjoys spicy food, fresh air, sparring, and observing people from shadowy corners. She does not know what hobbies are and has never heard of a bucket list. Please help her find purpose.
CR WISHES: Laura's still settling in, so my answer's still pretty similar to what I said on the intro:
• People to explain basic facts of existence for her.
• People to stab things with/for--take her on expeditions, recruit her to help you kill a guy, whatever.
• People around her age (I guess ~16-21 would be a good range???) that she can struggle to socialize with, because BOY HOWDY THAT'S SO HARD and she needs to start building the emotional resilience everyone else started working on around age 3.
• People not around her age she can look to for
ordersmission objectivessome kind of model of How To Be People.• Anyone who might be interested in recruiting her to stab things for their division (or maybe even not stabbing things)--I stuck her in Forces to start, because she'd be able to get across "I'm good at hurting people" without much difficulty, but she could easily be useful for things like spy work. (Well. The less diplomatic, more "sneak in here and gather intel" kind, anyway.)
• Other people from similarly shitty backgrounds (various kinds of abuse, essentially having been owned by others, murders for hire, etc.) who might clock her as Like Them.
• People who'd be grossed out by someone using handy-claws at the dinner table.
• Nevarran mages to hiss at.
• Nevarran anyones who might have heard about stabbings or slit throats or Other Kinds Of Murder in the southern end of the country and might be suspicious about The Stranger Dressed Like A Medieval Mallgoth.
• TBH, beyond that, I'm open to just about anything! Laura's...bless her heart, she's still very hard to have a real conversation with, but I'm willing to do w/e we need to in order to create some interesting CR!

ELEVATOR PITCH: Imagine every ounce of Linkin Park teenage rage bottled into an extremely intelligent and ruthless individual around the age of 17. He's a broken person who was never put back together right but takes pride in his work, his armor, and his frankly brilliant schemes. Kaz is a great communicator as long as it's business related, but absolutely sucks at being a regular human. Emotions? What are those???
ROUTINE: Kaz could be found near crowds, both mired deep and along the outskirts. In his world, he's weaponized secrets and information to drag himself up from nothing; he'll be keen to do something similar here. Because friends are useless but blackmail? That's leverage. He'd probably be easy to find in taverns/bars/houses of ill-repute (though he'd be more interested in the gossip than the men or women). If you can wheedle him into a card game, it's quite possible he'll cheat, being known to have exceptional skills in sleight of hand (and lockpicking).
PURSUITS: Right now, he's getting settled in! I have him slated for Diplomacy, since he's used to bartering, leveraging information for contracts, and making sure said contracts or agreements are as water-tight as possible. He's really just trying to get used to being in another world, without any of the people or things he knows and he's intent on soaking up as much information about Thedas as possible.

GOALS: He's coming from a really rough part of his canon (end of book one) and struggling with the fallout of his decisions. I'd ideally love to see him embrace the fact that he can still care about people and that he doesn't need to push them away all the time.

ELEVATOR PITCH: Nevarran-Antivan (but mostly Nevarran) spirit medium and reluctant rebel mage. Really into the quiet intense black-clad guy in a dark corner aesthetic. Has a lot of feelings, but 70% of them are synonyms for "angry." Also has a lot of opinions, but 90% of them are variations on "stop."
ROUTINE: Pretty easy to find in the library or hanging around the offices during the day, but he doesn't have the temperament for prolonged desk work, at all, so most days he'll also go outside and try to get better at beating things with a big stick. Usually has a friendly spirit wisp or two hanging around, sometimes has a skittish raven. Routinely goes to Lowtown and makes terrible choices, including losing at cards, sleeping with anyone who maintains eye contact long enough, and getting into fist fights with dock workers.
PURSUITS: In the Scouting Division until someone notices he'd be more useful in Forces and forces (haha) him over, so probably forever. Does not blend in well, especially if he has to talk! But at this point he has a lot of war experience, especially guerrilla tactics and dealing with mage-heavy combat, so he does fine as a scout in the traditional moving through hostile territory/scoping out enemy forces sense. And his wisps can spy for him. He's mostly involved in the Felandaris and Jeshavis projects, but he'll do anything if it looks like it needs doing and no one better is doing it.
And he's abruptly disengaged from a lot of his previous extracurricular mage problems pursuits, because he's sulking. c: But feel free to talk to him about it anyway.
CR WISHES: Friends is probably too big an ask for most characters, because he's a jerk, but more coworkers who might bicker but have to work together and aren't completely at one another's throats in the meantime stuff would be aces. And more field work! I don't want/need to come up with complex plots for everything but people who want to use vague "following these Vints through the wilderness" efforts and other stuff outside the Gallows as a backdrop for conversation or peril or whatever, hit me up, let's do it. But I also love negative CR, and it's very easy for him to dislike people and usually vice versa, so. Finger guns.

ELEVATOR PITCH: a duplicitous pirate with poor morals and big hopes for civil war back on his home base of nascere. invested in riftwatch as far as it can be beneficial in his personal ventures. secretive apostate who is low key doing some research to see about learning some new tricks.
ROUTINE: posts up in a filthy lowtown tavern during the afternoons and early evenings to essentially hold office hours. sporadically visits the library, sometimes mornings, sometimes early evenings, fairly unpredictable. can also be found coming and going from flint's office, and typically checking in on the walrus at least once a day. can chat about anything, really, but mostly interested in scurrilous gossip and public opinion on current events. most likely to ask so what's going on with you?
PURSUITS: :shrug: he's got a few things brewing but they aren't public knowledge. he mostly likes to play a supporting role in larger maneuvers, so he's really available to be helpful if you want someone to come along to be the face of the party he's your guy.
CR WISHES: my personal goal is to continue to make john's life complicated wrt his own magical abilities. he's never gonna give up his big secret willingly so finding circumstances to stress that is always on the back burner. more immediately, interested in deepening current acquaintances and forcing him to care more about folks here, acquiring more mutually sketchy alliances/troublesome friendships, just generally netting relationships that may or may not cause him some sort of crisis down the road.

ELEVATOR PITCH: Former Circle mage who spent years describing himself as a Loyalist until his rifter girlfriend finally got him to confess that was kind of bullshit. Still good at runes, glyphs and
flirting with your boyfriend in front of youhaving monogamous relationships. Leader of Project Sashamiri.ROUTINE: He's something of a workaholic, so he's in the project office or the library much of the time. He's in the Diplomacy offices sometimes too, though he was there more when there was a person to talk to, tbh. He's pretty easy to interrupt, giving off a personable vibe even in the middle of work. He does train a bit, mainly because it seems prudent, and he's still down for magical experimentation if you catch him in the right mood. He's also generally getting meals at normal-person mealtimes and open to talking to people then. (At night, if he's not in his own room, check Petrana's. That's certainly what Melys does.)
PURSUITS: See workaholic tendencies above; a lot of his energies are focused on Project Sashamiri and Diplomacy objectives. People who know him better (or who have read certain Diplomacy reports) may suspect he's got a post-Corypheus agenda too, but he's much cannier about that and getting at it is hard. Oocly, if you want to have your character make some wrong/partially wrong/wild assumptions, that could be fun, so hit me up.
CR WISHES: Transitional period continues! While he didn't get on the crystals and widely announce that Petrana convinced him to stop calling himself a loyalist, it's certainly possible to notice a small but marked shift in the way he talks about mages' future publicly. As I noted last time, some of his changes (including the fallout of the way the Divine Plot since went down) may create some IC hard feelings; I'm still interested in playing with those if you're keen. He's also actively building out a wider social network, so if you're not sure how we can smash our characters together, grab me and we'll work something out.

ELEVATOR PITCH: Very Dalish leader-boy got a fresh tragic backstory to go with his less dramatic but equally traumatic previous backstory, like a matched set of stockings. Now he's trying to live his best life and feeling seventeen kinds of crisis of faith as a result. He needs more friends but doesn't know how to make any. the best he can do is to make annoyances.
ROUTINE: Hangs out in the alienage at odd times. Keeps regular office hours, because he is the leader of a project and needs to be accessible. He spends time with Merril and Adasse socially. You can run into him anywhere in the gallows with good reliability. Sometimes Sorrel leaves the city to just be in the nature and do Elf Stuff because humans Kinda Freak Him Out.
PURSUITS: Dalish lore/religion is big for him. He's always a slut for new artifact/eluvian information. Want to talk about halla? This dude is here for it. Also he's dumb: if someone were to flirt with him, he'll take an embarrassingly long time to realize it and then panic. Mythal's temple was a huge bucket-list item for him.
CR WISHES: Sorrel just needs more friends. He'd like to learn to be a better mage, or at least a better-rounded one. He loves teaching people about HIS people and their philosophies, but is hesitant to do so because he has not experienced a great deal of honest inquiry from that direction except inasmuch as it pertains to what good it can do for Riftwatch's goals.

ELEVATOR PITCH: 30-something life-long intelligence operative from the Free Marches with workaholic tendencies and resting inscrutable face, now head of the Scouting Division.
ROUTINE: Most often found in the Scouting office, working at all hours and generally available for meetings/visitors. At the training grounds at odd hours when it's quieter (dawn, dusk, during meal times), working mostly hand-to-hand and with knives, but a little of everything. Has a griffon pal named Pockets. Sometimes found on the rooftops of the Gallows.
In terms of CR Kevin Bacon, she's most closely connected to Darras, Bastien, her fellow Division Heads, Coupe, and Kostos (they worked together on the Hostile Powers project), so could be met/learned about/whatever through them, but also makes an effort to be very approachable about anything to do with work so there's always an easy in there.
PURSUITS: Trying to run the Scouting Division, but being a spy and running an intelligence network aren't exactly the same skill-set. Very focused on her work (see the Scouting page for current priorities). Specific personal interests include incorporating griffons into scouting work, and keeping an eye on/making use of Riftwatch's pirate connections.
CR WISHES: Coworkers! I love everything to do with spy-work: actual mission stuff, mission planning/brainstorming, creating covers, disguises, managing contacts, training, heists, debriefs and figuring out follow-up, the boring stakeout parts, the moral dilemmas and blowback from ruining people's lives, jobs gone wrong, the toll it takes on people, new baby spies who need guidance, seasoned operatives who've been shaped by it in various ways, clashing agendas and ideologies, dueling priorities with limited resources, and so on.
So I'm very interested in CR related to that, and related to Yseult having to be the one making high-level decisions and handing out missions and managing other spies instead of just being given missions she handles alone herself, because I think that's a very interesting perspective shift she isn't fully suited for, so clashes and mistakes or regrets are definitely on the table. I'd love to have her become a somewhat-questionable mentor to younger agents. Cross-division/project stuff also definitely welcome! Riftwatch is small, there are plenty of places to overlap.

ELEVATOR PITCH: A devastatingly intelligent spirit. A djinni so accomplished and clever that it might be considered modest to leave it at just that instead of reciting the long list of his accomplishments. What some in the business of these things might call a manipulating, deeply obnoxious demon. But that's just rude.
ROUTINE: Bartimaeus is either very easy to find hard at work generally making a nuisance of himself, or is suspiciously absent. In the former case, he is slacking off on whatever menial tasks he's nominally been given ("You can't tell me what to do; I'm not technically a member of your silly club" etc), tormenting others, putting the haunted skull in a jar places where it might easily say BOO! at passerbys and make them jump, etc. In the cases where he is missing from the Gallows, he's usually actually flitting around (often literally; he's a shapeshifter and enjoys the shape of flying things) on all sorts of little exploratory adventures - in the city and beyond it.
PURSUITS: Bartimaeus has no official pursuits, but he does have a number of unofficial ones - namely figuring out how spirits and demons work in Thedas, the nature of the Rifts and the Fade, and pursuing the possibility of chopping his rift shard arm off. For science.
CR WISHES: Just generally more of it would be lovely, but also people who will argue semantics of possession and spirits and magic stuff with him. He's a known weirdo, but likely to be seen as some kind of eccentric hedgemage who just really excels at the whole shape shifting thing. But he's also not very good at keeping his mouth shut either, so it wouldn't be very difficult to get him to say something damning. Let's talk magical thoery.
Alternatively, BArtimaeus is really good at being in the wrong places at the wrong time. If you have a scene or situation you'd like to complicate in a seemingly nonsensical fashion, please do grab me.
Also he really is going to chop his arm off. I haven't decided how that's happening yet, but it is so if anyone wants to help/witness/be involved in the mayhem please give me a shout. It may help me figure out how to structure it.

ELEVATOR PITCH: Blood-soaked Hunter from the super dead city of Yharnam. Best skill is killing shit, is conflicted about that being her best skill but also unwilling to change anything about herself. Perpetuates all her own problems. Pessimistic about Society and Institutions in some super deep ways that lead her to not be the most social. Got some rad outsider syndrome developed since her Troubled Childhood.
ROUTINE: Can generally not really be sought out. She'll show up where she shows up, do errands and missions if you tell her to but won't offer herself up voluntarily. At night, she climbs all over whichever part of town she happens to be in because she's got a hyper-vigilance problem and can't not. Will totally visit your window to either chitchat or just watch you :) Do you want to fight on a rooftop? Anna wants to fight on a rooftop in the dark.
PURSUITS: As mentioned above, is pessimistic about this Riftwatch institution and doesn't really believe anything has changed in splitting off from the Inquisition. Is mostly here because she's a Rifter and has nowhere else in particular to be. Also you let her brush your horses. Need a pair of hands? Catch her and tell her to help you, she won't argue.
CR WISHES: My girl is so anti-social, literally any amount of interaction with anyone is great. She won't be 'friends' with idk possibly anyone, but she will pay attention to you and be interested in your general state. She really wants to spar/train with people who have similar skillsets to hers (agile fighter types; rangers, assassins, hunters, etc) but would settle for anyone who wants to help her, as an outlet for her need to train/prepare/be crazy vigilant about a monster plague that probably isn't coming here and mostly lives ~*in her memories*~.

ELEVATOR PITCH: Former aristocrat turned public scandal specializes in being charming if you like cunts.
ROUTINE: Gwenaëlle lives with Thranduil in the central tower, where they share his division head quarters with a veritable menagerie of animals; she can relatively routinely be found taking Hardie running around the Gallows island for his exercise purposes, working on Forces boat business with our totally upstanding pirates, and loaning out her semi-retired "gentleman's gentleman" ex-assassin for archival and scribe work because he's old and needs to sit down more in his life. She also trains with knives and the bow, sometimes in the Gallows training yard, and sometimes traveling up to Hightown to use her grandfather's residence.
PURSUITS: She is attempting to become shoot bows good, and is currently solidly shoot bows adequate. A general interest in being more physically accomplished; she has regular sword lessons with Flint, now that she and Coupe aren't really on trust each other not to go for the throat in a training session terms.

ELEVATOR PITCH: a plucky elf sidekick who would rather make jokes than acknowledge actual feelings
ROUTINE: she sleeps in group quarters, hangs out with Kostos, and Matthias, will stop and ask Bastien about whatever he’s doing if she sees him in passing, frequents the training area, does stuff in and around Kirkwall, and will get bored with menial duties she’s been assigned and end up basically just crumpling papers and free-throwing them into the trash.
PURSUITS: athessa was investigating fade-touched animals when she joined the then-inquisition so she might still be involved with that kind of stuff on the regular. She hasn’t been assigned any long-term projects or anything so mostly it’s just task-of-the-week kind of stuff. her hobbies mostly revolve around learning new things that seem interesting in the moment, or getting better at some stupid parkour and/or fighting stuff. she also likes to press flowers between the pages of books but she’ll often forget they’re there. she wants a nemesis.
CR WISHES: I’d love for someone with a bit of emotional intelligence to impart wisdom on her, because I have plans for her to confront some of her past trauma in some unhealthy ways. I’d also like to have her get into floriography lmao. Also I think it’d be interesting for her to pursue trying to find out what happened to her clan, so if anyone wants to do a sad field trip with none to minimal closure/satisfaction hmu. Also discovering that the man who assaulted her when she was 15 is still a prominent member of Kirkwall society, that can happen.
