Party Banter Meme

In the Dragon Age games, as you travel Thedas with your best pals, they have a lot of short conversations about politics, the weather, butts, etc. So this is the Fade Rift equivalent, in four easy steps!

1. Imagine your characters are on a very long walk toward a mission objective, or on a very long walk back after kicking ass, or standing guard together, or gathering herbs, or working in the library late at night, or something. Anything sort of boring that might make people want to have a dumb conversation just to break things up a bit.

OPTIONAL ASSISTANT: Since so many people reported being out of it, we made a random generator to help you come up with some general banter prompts for your top-levels.

2. Post a few remarks your character might say (similar to TFLN, except spoken out loud and less ridiculous and sexy, maybe. maybe not. we don’t know your life) while passing the time.

3. Tag around to reply to those general remarks or to start new/wildcard conversations! Threads should be pretty short and involve minimal action; there’s no need to turn anything into a big production. Multiperson threads are encouraged. Series of conversations between the same two characters occurring on different days are also encouraged.

4. Gather up all of your little conversation snippets like a bouquet and keep them forever, because they’re game canon. Banter threads can't be used for Base AC, but do count towards AC Rewards points.

What a charming question, dear fellow.

I wouldn't dream of it. I need people to palm my drinks off on at parties.

[ The immediate sense he's made a misstep. ]

But I'm not much of a singer.

[bouchonne]

It's a hard job, but I'm equal to it.

[technologist]

It's just— nothing. You're a bit tired, probably.

[ 100% guileless. worse for it?? ]

Almost no one is truly much of a singer, Mr. Ellis. And if they say otherwise, they are either inflating the truth or have been lied to by their friends and family since they were a child.

[bouchonne]

[ He offers a bland smile in return. ]

Well, I've had a full life of being invited to many parties - never sleeping, living hard. I'm sure that if I'd skipped all of those things, I'd have a nice and youthful appearance like yours.

[heorte]

You sound very knowledgeable about that.

[ how many bad singers does wysteria know ]

Everyone knows that. They just don't say it.

I've been invited to parties. And I don't sleep either, actually, so maybe you should just... drink some water, occasionally.

I didn't.

[ A small, dull rattle of memory accompanies that statement, anecdotes that Ellis lets fade rather than put voice to. ]

But I can't say there was much need to consider it before now.

And yet here we are, considering. Ouch— [Stepping on a stone. No matter.] The point is that almost everyone is perfectly mediocre at singing, and so there is nothing to be ashamed of.

[bouchonne]

Oh, yes. Apologies. I had my doubts initially, but it's clear that someone who says I've been invited to parties like that is a very popular fellow. It was really the way your eye twitched when you said it that convinced me.

[technologist]

Fine, whatever.

Sorry I'm not getting plastered twenty-four seven. I've got better things to do with my time, like saving the bloody world.

I do not know anything about magic. But I know something about singing, and there are people with singing instructors and years of practice who can hit all of the notes but might still be out-sung by a kitchen maid who just—[ a wistful sort of gesture ] —can sing.

Pretty sure that kitchen maid had to practice, too, just not at the behest of instructors.

[bouchonne]

Oh, is that how you spend your time?

You are a shapeshifter? What is that like?

Did you bring them back? I have heard they are useful for something, but honestly, I could not say what.
