PARTY BANTER MEME

In the Dragon Age games, as you travel Thedas with your best pals, they have a lot of short conversations about politics, the weather, butts, etc. So this is the Fade Rift equivalent, in four easy steps!

1. Imagine your characters are on a very long walk somewhere, or on a very long walk back after kicking ass, or standing guard together, or gathering herbs, or working in the library late at night, or anything else sort of boring. You can provide context if you'd like, like "[ On the way back from Antiva: ]," but it isn't mandatory.

2. Post a few different remarks your character might make—similar to TFLN, except spoken out loud and less ridiculous, maybe, or maybe not, I don’t know your life—while passing the time.

3. Tag around to reply to those general remarks or to start new/wildcard conversations! Threads should be pretty short and involve minimal action; there’s no need to turn anything into a big production. Threadjacking to create multiperson conversations is encouraged (unless someone says not to). Multiple different conversations between the same characters occurring on different days are also encouraged.

4. Gather up all of your little conversation snippets like a bouquet and keep them forever, because they’re game canon.

[Funny how, without any context for the actual meaning, the place it comes from, the views held, it sounds like something that could have been written of the Maker. It has shades of Transfigurations in places.

And for all the Chant is meant to be sung, it's not a very musically interesting piece. Only so much you can do when there's so much of it. Most of it just ends up being...well, a chant.]

If you ever get bored of the scout life, you could be a minstrel. [Or a bard, but that would be an even more stressful life.]

I think the Maker still considers everyone His children, so I guess it makes all of us really bratty siblings. And there isn't a get-along shirt big enough for us all. The rich think they're only children and the rest of us are strangers, seems like.

[ but more seriously— ]

We should ask someone from research if there's a way to do it without bringing the wall down on us.

[ not that bringing the wall down isn't an option, it's just the option that removes the necessity of stealth. ]

The report will be three sentences long. "Encountered enemy advance party of superior numbers, no treachery suspected. Gathered intelligence regarding Venatori counter-intelligence operatives, see attached dossiers. Returned to Gallows." And at this rate, we may cut the third. Hold a moment, I've blood in my eye.

[ A sip of wine, a moment of observation from across the tavern. She gestures with her chin. ]

Look closely at their body language. What do you see?

[Pause, while she leans over her own tankard, chin in hand.]

He's leaning in, getting close. He's acting threatening but it comes off like he's trying to impress him.

That's... usually how it's supposed to go, right?

[notathreat]

Oh, you know. In another reality.

[A big grin. That was cryptic Ellie what the hell-]

What's your favorite part of the chant?

[indissection]

My great-grandmother had four husbands.

[heorte]

A rapier, perhaps.

[ A swerve away from the obvious: daggers, the kind that go unseen until you find one in between your ribs. ]

So you managed a way out? In spite of it.

[ Ellie doesn't necessarily need to describe how she extricated herself from the situation. Ellis can guess. ]

It will hold long enough for us to pass through.

[ however— ]

We might need to circle around the far way rather than rely on it for the way back.

[hassaran]

[ A nod. ] Look at his hands beneath the bar. Fidgeting. Nerves, not anger.

Is he succeeding?

[doggish]

Put me down if you wish to have any hope of a real token of affection tonight.

[sir that is not nicely— but you know what, at least he's settling down.]

[Ellie nods, filing the signs away. She's familiar with this tone, too- though it's been a while since she's had a lesson.]

Other guy's leaning in. Shoulders up, but his head's tilted to the side like he's thinking about kissing him.

He likes the idea of a fight, though.
