SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF MEME
Showing up to a division meeting without any pants on! Tripping off over the edge of the griffon eyrie and falling forever! Running from marauding darkspawn only to discover you're running in place!
With the denizens of Kirkwall plagued by an increasing volume of bad dreams, it's more than likely there are one or two re-occurring nightmares that your character is suffering from. What's less of a sure thing is whether they're going to tell anyone about it.
But I'm nosy and I want to know what everyone's characters are suffering from! This is entirely for OOC indulgence, but if something catches your eye and your want to use this as a CR building opportunity/a miniature Plot With My Nightmares plotting post then... well I'm not the boss of you/I've added a little space to indicate if you want to thread about it with someone.

NIGHTMARE(s): Recollections of losing his leg. Nascere breaking in half. That one shitty night on the road where Flint's chest got stomped in.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Are their stressors in the character's life that would motivate these particular nightmares? Any cool symbolism or particular meanings? Give me the meta goss.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Cherry-picked retellings for the purpose of leveling up familiarity? Sure. (Sincere discussions less likely unless you are one of the two people he shares some emotional honesty with.)
↠ DERRICA
NIGHTMARE(s): The Annulment, baby. Plenty of unrecognizable Rivaini faces, but also plenty of Rifter and mages mixed into the chaos and gore.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Derrica is increasingly worried about Chantry interference in Riftwatch affairs, and about what the future looks like for mages and rifters, so she would probably be having these dreams intermittently regardless of plot.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Specifics unlockable on offer to mages and rifters, general acknowledgement of bad dreams open to anyone. Normies might be able to get some details, but they'd have to do a little conversational work for it. Holler if you want in.
↠ ELLIS
NIGHTMARE(s): Lots of jumbled impressions of the False Calling, blood sacrifices, darkspawn looming up out of the dark, burning Blighted towns and farms, etc. The nitty-gritty of Warden duties dialed up to eleven on the horror scale. Flashes of the Fifth Blight mixed in, just for fun.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Warden things on the brain nonstop these days between the Gates and his field trips. Constant concerns about whether or not he should be in Kirkwall abound despite all the reasons he won't be able to bring himself to leave.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Gee I wonder if Ellis would bring this up.................
I personally would be interested in wrangling some threads but recognize that it probably requires more prodding and cornering of a recalcitrant Ferelden than one might be willing to undertake, so anything beyond a vague "mm yes i too have had bad sleep" is going to be a hard conversational tree to unlock.
↠ SETH GECKO
NIGHTMARE(s): Oldies but goodies, Seth's standard rotation of nightmares range from vampire snake people biting into him to his loved ones morphing into vampire snake people and biting into him to childhood trauma recollections of his father forcing him to reassemble a handgun over and over, or his father burning alive in their living room.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Vampire snake people are higher in rotation largely because arriving in Thedas has stirred up all Seth's reservations about culebra and his deep-rooted dislike of new and unknown elements.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Snappy complaints about nightmares are more likely than heartfelt explanations of what he dreams about. Snippy yet vague mentions of culebra are about as likely as anyone is going to get at this stage in his cr development.

NIGHTMARE(s): (1) Searching for someone in a crowd full of people, none of whom acknowledge him at all or react to him getting increasingly freaked out. (2) Killing someone who on closer post-mortem examination is one of his parents or siblings or friends.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Huge shrug! I'm not great at dreams because my own are so boring! But he recently had to kill people again after a long break and is on the verge of trying to find out where his family is/if they are okay, so he's stressed about those things.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Someone else would have to spill their own guts first, but sure!

NIGHTMARE(s): (1) Locked in a small room with no door and no windows and a demon promising it can get him out. (2) His rebel friends are waiting on the Gallows and no one is listening to him try to explain he's supposed to be up there too.
SIGNIFICANCE?: What is symbolism????
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: He'd keep it to himself under most circumstances but maybe.

NIGHTMARE(s): Actually, we've got one in canon. She's specifically dragged back to it being Joel, over and over, but there are variations now. Sometimes, they involve being caged, sometimes it's a different person stuck behind a door. Sometimes it's a fire slowly eating away at the place she's in, with broken plates on the floor. Sometimes it's "coming to" halfway through fighting something, and realizing that what she just struck a mortal blow on is crying, screaming, and it has the voice or face of someone she knows and loves. But no matter what, it's always her fault. No matter what, she can never get there in time. The theme is helplessness over all.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Existing trauma heyoooo
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Ellie would keep it to herself unless she actively got caught having a nightmare. They're not new. If you want a thread like that hmu.

NIGHTMARE(s): Jude dreams of the world unraveling like the end of a thread pulled on a sweater. Of people coming apart, and his hands not being able to put them back together. He tries to mend the tears, tries to patch them up, but everything turns immaterial in his hands. He cannot touch, he cannot reach- and what he can touch snarls up irreparably.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Jude's powers as a sentinel help provide metaphysical stability for his pack. He's separated from them now and therefore useless. What he tries to do here may not actually be helpful, and he's afraid of fucking things up worse for the trying.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Jude would largely keep his dreams to himself since it's really not about him, haha, but! If someone else needs reassurance over their own nightmares, he'd gladly pull it out. He knows that they're being fed by his own insecurities, and he knows it's all bull, but there's no magic switch to turn feelings off.

NIGHTMARE(s): The void, everywhere. The sensation of drifting. His friends, dead. While those from his home still feature occasionally, just a pile of Avenger corpses, more often than not he now sees the bodies of his lifeless Thedosian friends.
SIGNIFICANCE?: A return of PTSD dreams he had with more frequency a couple of years back, in which he would envision the doom of the world hidden in the impossible depths of deep space, along with the very real near death experiences he has had at both its borders and midst.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: He would keep it to himself, but may share if close friends were in a sharing mood or was witnessed getting jarred awake from one.

NIGHTMARE(s): Trapped in the room he spent his solitary confinement in, ice on the walls. On the other side, he can hear various things: sometimes it's merriment, laughter. Sometimes the docks of Kirkwall, shouting and ship bells. Other times, a battle, muffled and distant.
SIGNIFICANCE?: In part memory based, and the symbolism after that revolves around themes of deliberate repression, restraint, or entrapment.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Sure, for the purpose of discussing dreams. He would do so clinically, in context of others speaking about their own, although with enough self-preservation that he'd limit it to friends.

NIGHTMARE(s): He is dancing with someone, or drinking with someone, or making love to someone, and then their demeanour changes from friendly to fearful, trying to get him away from them and fleeing. And then he gets chased by scary birds, probably.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Insecurity and flying things phobia.

NIGHTMARE(s): Vanya's dreams do not have a consistent plot, but they do have a consistent feeling. Whatever is happening to him, his own moves and responses are slow, sluggish; he can't get where he is trying to go, can't stop something or do something, can't respond as fast as he thinks he should be able to. He's never fully frozen, which makes it even more frustrating.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Look, everyone in Riftwatch is stressed. But among Vanya's many waking worries is that he has been too passive in his life, letting circumstances and other people carry him along when he should have made an effort to carve another path in hindsight.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: While Vanya would be vanishingly unlikely to volunteer the content of his dreams, he would certainly acknowledge he's been sleeping badly (like everyone else) should it come up. He is happy to be sympathetic in a "yes, this situation is Bad" sort of way.

NIGHTMARE(s): Nearly all of her nightmares are medical horror, it's very bad.
SIGNIFICANCE?: The recent discussions about her time as a Venatori captive haven't helped, exactly, but a lot of this anxiety is actually carry over from home. Finding out that you were a medical experiment and that people in your life were secretly collecting data about you and sending it to a shadowy corporation will, uh, do that to you.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Cosima started keeping a detailed journal of the dreams as soon as it became clear it was a wider phenomenon. She'd be happy to compare notes, but she'd probably only proactively bring it up with Research colleagues to avoid unnerving people who are just trying to eat breakfast.

NIGHTMARE(s): Lots of Uldred flashbacks, despite the fact he wasn't actually there; in a nonzero number of these dreams, the Circle ends up annulled. Occasionally, for spice, Darkspawn overrun the Circle while it's actively full of demons!
SIGNIFICANCE?: Both the rebellion and the Fifth Blight were pretty formative events for Julius, and he's usually in better control of his dreams, so this is unnerving for him, especially the longer it goes on.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Probably mostly with other mages if at all, though if you have an idea, pitch me.

NIGHTMARE(s): She has a reoccuring nightmare that always involves being a child, walking down a long hospital corridor, and finding a dead body at the end of it. OG version is dad Anderson but now that she's settled in Thedas it could be just about anybody who has been friendly to her. You're welcome! Other subjects include infected getting into the Gallows, Lev, the all too recent deaths of all her friends, survivor's guilt, etc
SIGNIFICANCE?: These are all inspired by pre-existing trauma yayyyyyy. She's also strung out over losing people she's become close to

NIGHTMARE(s): Re-education/indoctrination by way of ritualized torture, snake parts making a resurgence and the terror of other people discovering how Other he is.
SIGNIFICANCE?: Playing house with a bunch of non-yuan-ti is a sin, developing attachments is a sin, having emotions and being gay are personal failings AND sins. There is a perpetual low-frequency drone of fear about him re: discovery and punishment. Flip it 180 and there are similar factors in reverse for non-snakes not being fans of demonic-cult cannibal snake people.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: I am already always threading about this. He is reluctant to talk about it on the order of making up other nightmares to have which could in itself be a good time for me while he’s nosy about others.

NIGHTMARE(s): 1) being stuck on a ship trapped in the doldrums, 2) sitting in an empty room waiting for something, with the sound of a dwarven clock ticking somewhere, 3) machete-ing his way through a dense jungle, but seeming to make no progress, 4) A giant snake sloughing out of a rift
SIGNIFICANCE?: Local man's abstract concerns about the progress of the war, his personal vendettas, etc.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: Happy to thread dream related things if you want your character to spill their guts, but Flint won't be telling anyone about his dreams unless they meet [arcane and illusive friendship requirements which virtually no one meets]. Look I made this meme for a reason ok.

NIGHTMARE(s): 1) Homeowner anxieties of returning home and finding everything is flooded or the roof caved in while he was away and now everything is ruined FOREVER, 2) Running late for something very important and he keeps getting turned around or having to juggle more tasks and getting progressively more and more behind
SIGNIFICANCE?: Have you ever been many many miles from your house and unlikely to return to it any time soon and certain that all the windows were going to be broken when you get back to it????
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: If he got the sense it was going to be a mutual sharing situation, sure.

NIGHTMARE(s): Edgard continually dreams about disasters in which everything is completely his fault which runs the gambit from personally murdering friends to like...he's making food and he forgets the essential ingredient that makes it edible, so everyone's mad. He also has straight up ptsd dreams about his trauma. He also has dreams where he needs to tell someone something significant, but realizes his mouth has been sewn shut.
SIGNIFICANCE?: He has multiple things in his past that he thinks are his fault that aren't exactly his fault. He was forced to kill one of his comrades in the war and also, his thief gang and a group of peasants was poisoned by his (for all intents and purposes) boyfriend who he knew something had changed with. He thinks he could've stopped both of these things had he acted differently.
DO YOU WANT TO THREAD ABOUT THIS?: I always want to thread about stuff, but Edgard keeps things close to his chest, so it would take some trust for him to open up. But any angles anyone sees, I am game for. I'd love a thread about the stupid baking dream though.
