Left in her mailbox is a small bundle fastened with ribbon. When unfolded, it reveals itself to be a pair of fine leather gloves, stylish and supple and of a dark brown that is nearly purple. On her casting hand, three fingers are left exposed. Their make is robust enough to be worn with armor, designed to protect her palms when wielding a staff.

There is attached a note (in Julius' handwriting) that reads:

These will help spare your hands.

Gwenaëlle hadn't been entirely sure what to get Derrica, but she had wanted to make some gesture— in the end, Derrica is delivered a fine, light-weight chemise that, if Loxley ever sees it, he will likely recognise he owns something with the very same lace. And a note:

I thought I'd like to give you something impractical, for the purpose only of being enjoyed. If you don't like it, it has reasonable resale value.

Loxley will gift give in person. Unwrapped, he presents a delicate perfume bottle, formed of deep blue glass with plated gold trim, and with a large pearl set into the lid which acts also as an inbuilt glass dropper.

The scent inside is certainly of Rivain, bright and citrusy and clean rather than heavy and floral. The liquid within is more of an oil, and a little goes a long way. It can be mixed into bathing water or applied to the skin.

The painting is unsigned except in the corner, and without a note. It's wrapped in linen and left just inside the door of Derrica's office, leaning against a wall.

It's the one of the sea creature from Derrica's story, the one she'd told Ellie not to change a thing about. It's rendered in soft, stormy, more impressionistic color and shadow rather than detail. It looks like how the human eye would render the scene of a clear starry night.

Ellie is far from a master artist, but there's hints of what she'll come to be in the way she's bathed the edges in moonlight like dropped stars, the way it shines into the depths below.

It differs from the sketch in that the details are so much harder to make out, but the feeling is forefront. The deep darkness and implicit danger and strange understanding of the creature below, something far beyond that promise of destruction. It exists as it is, both the creature and the woman occupying that liminal space.

It's not large, but Ellie clearly got lost in this. It was not a painting produced as a gift, but rather something that Ellie did for herself, and was gifted to the person she felt would most appreciate it.

Delivered to her as a gift for the infirmary in general, with his apologies if it actually makes people feel worse to have scented air: a basket of six slightly-early pomander-style oranges, pierced with cloves and dried in spices.

And delivered to her for her, a person who saved his life!, etc.: a balsa wood bird painted with floral patterns, mostly blue.

Derrica always seems to be wearing something pretty in her ears or around her neck or on her wrists. Abby leaves a little... tree-thing, in her cubby-hole. It's not especially beautiful but she is under the impression that it will become so when Derrica drapes all of her lovely items off the branches.
