The knots are all have useful field applications; the accompanying woodcut illustrations are marginally less scandalous than one might hope

For his Forces co-workers, Vanya provides a jar of fine orange marmalade. For Gwenaëlle, he also includes a set of beeswax candles, molded to resemble small ships. (He did not have any luck finding candles that more closely resembled her houseboat, but it's clearly the spirit of the thing.)

A fine leather skirt hike and accompanying belt, with silver clasps and trim. They are embossed with one bear rearing up on its hind legs each. The tiny torn-off-the-corner-of-a-report bit of paper states: Happy Satinalia. Love Abby

A very tiny bottle filled with a tannish brown liquid, corked. It’s rustic, but has an air of elegance to it. No note, but if examined closely you will see it labeled as “Eau d’ Edgard”
