neighborhood gossip meme.

Hey. Fill this out. Post it with your character's name in the subject line. Then read about everyone else to find out what your character would know about their colleagues and neighbors. (You can see who your character lives near by checking out the housing spreadsheet. Also put your character on it if needed.) Comment to handwave CR or make plans based on responses or just tell people you like what they said. Thanks.

LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Currently, on the fourth floor of the former Templar tower, in room D, with Marcus Rowntree, Julius, and Vysvolod (a dog).

What might neighbors notice? Vysvolod is a massive, elderly wolfhound who needs to be taken out daily and periodically forces Marcus to cajole or carry him up the stairs when he decides he doesn't feel like it today, man. He has never done this in front of Petrana even once. They are relatively quiet and polite neighbours, but there's three of them and they have a fairly athletic sex life, so.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? It often smells of cigarette smoke nearby their door, and there's a dog in it.

What about inside? Generally very tidy, and:

How accessible is it? —very private. They don't never invite anyone in, but not super often.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Petrana more often collects a plate and returns to her office or quarters with it - the mage throuple try to regularly arrange eating together in their room. She's most likely to take lunch in the dining hall if she does at all.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Petrana does this much less since they acquired their own tub for their room, but up until that point was seen regularly in the heated baths and was perfectly comfortable using them — anyone who's been in Riftwatch long enough to remember when she was new, she was clearly used to the arrangement prior to her arrival in Thedas. It's more or less the only place anyone sees her less than extremely buttoned up.

What's their hygiene like? High maintenance. She is clean, tidy and well heeled, and wears perfume oil in her hair.

Anything else? Despite her Hightown habits and her icons, most of the time in the Gallows she's dressed more plainly and neatly, having a stash of dresses that she sewed for herself from unused bed-sheets and some similar that she acquired from markets later on. They tend to be blue, have pockets, and are still similarly cut to her finer gowns: square necklines, worn with corsets or laced bodices, long and full skirts, though they're generally slightly shorter and don't drag on the floor unless she's on stairs.

LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? What's off time. (She has regular reservations at several Hightown establishments, though this does overlap with her work more often than it doesn't.)

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Petrana has a nuggalope named The Black Divine who she has trained in trick riding, and can occasionally be found practising what amounts to an incredibly ambitious circus act and probably reflects some interesting things about her pre-Riftwatch life. She likes to play cards — a lot of her acquaintances have fallen for "oh, can you explain the rules?" — and is all about taking the air with a vigorous walk accompanied by dog. She also enjoys polluting the air with tobacco.

What's common knowledge about their social life? That she has one would probably be news to the average observer.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? She's well-known in Hightown, having cultivated relationships there during her tenure in the Ambassador's office and subsequent maintenance of those for diplomatic and practical purposes. She's a regular attendee of salons, and maintains correspondence with people she's met through her work outside of Kirkwall, particularly in Starkhaven. There was a persistent rumour in Hightown that she and Commander Flint were having an affair which is occasionally, though less often now, revitalised.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Notoriously pro-mage.

Anything else? She is occasionally mistaken for a local, and although she corrects people when it comes up, it wouldn't be a stretch to guess she's cultivating a vibe.

LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Chief Cryptographer, which answers to the Scouting division, although she remains a member of Diplomacy.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Petrana has done a lot of paperwork for the Captain of the Guard, who should really think hard about his decisions when surrendering things from his own mind to ancient elvhen spirits. She has been known to offer lockpicking instruction.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? She is most often in the Gallows or in Hightown, and her schedule is public and fairly easily accessible knowledge within Riftwatch.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? She technically shares an office with the Master of Information, but since that's Silver, it's mostly her office and he drops by now and then so they can drink and gossip.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? It's just the nuggalope stuff.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Lockpicking came up, and she would be more than happy to assist anyone interested in refining that skill; she is also a very skilled horsewoman (the nuggalope is new ... comparatively), and can instruct in that. Counterintuitively, probably not the best language tutor despite her role.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Polite and private, probably kind of boring and uptight. All about the work, hard to read, easy to make assumptions of and project onto.

Anything else? She keeps liquor in Silver's desk.

  • What's their hygiene like?
  • Bathes and washes his clothes regularly, with water

  • Haters will tell you to buy cheap soap, or spend less on alcohol, and you shouldn't listen

  • Anything else?
  • There's always cat hair

  • LAUGH

Where do they go in their off time?
  • At the start of the month, cleans up to try and scumbag his way into whatever's new and hot in Hightown, without much success
  • Frequents a handful of particularly shitty Lowtown spots at the end of the month, when he's broke

  • What do they do for fun? What would people know about it?

  • Do they regularly assist with anything else?
  • Assists with guard duty, running errands for people / projects, and lifting heavy things
  • Dips into Forces tasks about half the time

  • How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery?
  • Frequently working elsewhere, doesn't bother to tell anyone who doesn't have to know

  • Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like?
  • If he's doing paperwork or reading reports, he's doing it in the work room to avoid doing that work leaking confidential information
  • Shame how he's rarely able to make it to the work room! Anyway
  • It's messy, there's perpetually an abandoned mug

  • Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what?
  • That sounds like a lot of work. So: Generally, no
  • Every now and then he’ll do showoff tricks with his scimitars, like spinning them around and other junk that's useless in an actual fight

  • What are some things they might teach other people how to do?
  • Lazar isn’t teaching anyone anything unless they come prepared to bargain
  • Speaks multiple languages including Ander
  • Can appraise Lawfully Acquired Goods and connect you with a fence

Kostos is out for blood but so far that's mostly meant glaring at the back of Cedric's head while stabbing his food extra hard in the dining hall.

Bastien gave him a writing board as a Welcome to Diplo present and speaks Orlesian to him constantly with apparent obliviousness to any failure to keep up.

    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Gwenaëlle lives in a houseboat tied up at the Gallows, with Felix Guilfoyle (the retired steward of the Vauquelins) and Florent Vascarelle (artistic layabout). She also shares her home with Hardie, her dog, and a lykoi cat named Small Yngvi; the birds she left in Hightown, where she occasionally still has overnight visits with her cousins in their grandfather's absence.

What might neighbors notice? La Souveraineté is tied up not far from where the Gallows ferry docks, so her neighbours are "anyone coming and going from the Gallows", for the record. It is an enormous, idiosyncratic beast of a boat; it's been dramatically overhauled, but she maintained the ... let's say personality of the design on the exterior.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? She has a gallery with a conversation pit on the lowest above-deck floor which is easy to see in from outside, and that's the most visible sign that it's probably Nice In There, as opposed to some kind of baba yaga nightmare.

What about inside? It's very tidy, very organised - a lot of the storage is contained and cushioned - and leans heavily on warm tones, wood, and colourful lanterns. There's a lot of hanging scarves and draperies, wind chimes, but not a lot of clutter.

How accessible is it? Gwenaëlle is fairly particular about who she invites, and doesn't tend to receive a lot of unsolicited visitors, but it's literally just right there on the Gallows' porch where technically you could just rock up and knock on her door. She likes to have guests!

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? She tends to eat lunch and/or dinner in the dining hall if it's convenient in her working hours, but likes to eat at home otherwise; she and Florent will usually steal a full pizza for the household on Pizza Night. (Guilfoyle could just go and get one. He routinely arranges meals this way. The heist aspect is part of it.) She tends to reach for what she can eat on the move, unless she's really hungry or wants to eat with someone specifically.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? She acquired one of those sweet magic baths for her boat, and since then has essentially not used the public baths, but prior she was using them and was perfectly comfortable. A lot of people have probably seen all of her extensive scarring in reasonable detail. She likes to luxuriate in a bath, and Hair Wash Day is a big deal with multiple moving parts.

What's their hygiene like? She's fastidious and particular - she likes to keep her things and herself clean and presentable, and has a favourite perfume oil.

Anything else? She has very distinct working and not working wardrobes; the former is basically "a sexy Flint costume", and the latter tends to be more akin to her old Orlesian habits, full skirts, corsetry, very sleek compared to the fashions of Orlais but very fine, and she's fairly regularly updating both wardrobes. Her wardrobe and style has always been a bit of a tell and tended to reflect the people she's closest to (see also: dressing up like Tiny Sexy Flint, or the neutral/pastel/nature era of her marriage); over the past six months she's rotated a lot of jewel-tone reds into her off-duty looks. Bought a capelet. Don't worry about it.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Usually, to her houseboat; she has a favourite modiste, restaurant and bookstore in Hightown, which she usually visits when checking on her cousins.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? She likes swimming, exercise, poetry and literature - galleries, theatre (especially if Florent's performing). She spends a lot of her own downtime sewing, which used to be more exclusively recreational but now tends to have a practical bent (mending, making clothes). Often, gifts she gives she made or altered herself. She drinks, and occasionally partakes in recreational drugs.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Given her notoriously terrible personality, she is tight with a surprising number of people! Gwenaëllle has quite a few social connections, tight with Loxley, ride or die besties with Alexandrie, sort of orbiting the young rifter lesbian polycule (that's what's going on there, right?????), she and Wysteria have gone from "ugh, her" to "ugh, everyone but us?". She regularly spends time with Flint for "book club" (sword tutelage and literature discussions), and Hardie is the reason he probably has jerky in his pockets at any given time. If she were less against social gatherings, pulling all of her disparate threads together would probably make for a wild one.

Also, she's had a lot of family in and out of Kirkwall, and messily separated from her rifter husband several years ago (before his eventual dissipation) in an explosively and embarrassingly public fashion.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? A disgraced former Orlesian noble with a public profile and published works, she is known among a lot of NPCs, particularly those in Hightown and in Halamshiral or Val Royeaux. In Hightown particularly, it's generally known that the Duc de Coucy pays a lot of her bills and would not be thrilled to hear about her receiving less than stellar or conciliatory service.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Hates Celene, goes to bat for Riftwatch being valuable in and of itself. Associated with rifter sympathizing, though doesn't necessarily seem to be very Sympathetic about rifters.

Anything else? She occasionally leverages her Hightown connections and her grandfather's reputation for work and for friends.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Gwenaëlle is a member of the Forces division.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? She volunteers in the infirmary, providing an extra pair of hands and some knowledge of medical alchemy and emergency medicine.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? She's generally in the Gallows unless assigned to a field mission, in which case whether or not someone knows depends on the mission! She isn't secretive about it when it isn't ~classified~.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? She occasionally checks if anything's been left on her desk in the Forces office space, but for the most part uses her study in the houseboat to do any paperwork before turning it in.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Since she generally gets her routine practise with ~the blade~ in the central tower, her time spent in the training courtyard is often dedicated to archery (and her dope bow, Hakkon's Wrath), though she's generally game to spar with somebody if they're interested and occasionally can be prevailed upon to show off the tricks her big boi anchor-shard can do. Has blasted more than one person across the training yard.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Basic field medicine for Forces types that just need "how do I stabilise until we can get to a healer", basics of swordwork for someone who is just starting out, How To Swim - these are all things she wouldn't necessarily suggest off the cuff, but would readily volunteer for if she heard someone was specifically looking to learn. (And has offered, in the past.) She'd also be happy to teach someone to sew. The only barrier to entry is both them and Gwenaëlle being prepared to spend hours together.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Surprisingly focused and competent professionally, considering how she often comes across like a manic pixie nightmare bitch in overheard conversations. Orlesian, spoiled, rude, epicentre of a lot of drama, used to get into very public fights a lot more often.

Anything else? When was the last time she got into a very public row? Maybe she's due. Like volcanoes?

Ellie | Scouting Division | Griffon Keeper

    [personal profile] notathreat 2024-02-25 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Mage tower, private room 5k. She technically lives there alone but Ellie splits custody of Clarisse with Abby, so Clarisse spends the night half the time.

What might neighbors notice? Same as above. If she's in her room the door is usually cracked unless she's sleeping so people can knock. She's back at weird hours sometimes, likely because she can't sleep.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Ellie keeps her door open when she's painting, closed when she isn't, and weather permitting will leave the window open.

What about inside? She's chaotic and a bit messy, but there's an order to it all the same. There are plenty of paintings stacked along the wall.

How accessible is it? Most people would have glimpsed inside, but getting invited inside had only happened with a handful of people.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Ellie comes in pretty sporadically unless she's with someone else and will usually pack stuff to take with her. There's almost always doubles. If she eats in the dining hall alone it's usually with a book but she'll put it away if someone wants to sit with her. She eats very quickly and wipes her hands on her pants.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Ellie uses the public baths. She tends to come in the middle of the night and soak for a while, maybe even doze. She won't stay if there are men there but the women have probably gotten a glimpse of her. She's got a *shitload* of scars, including one where she was impaled in the stomach/side. It doesn't come out the other side.

What's their hygiene like? Mmm not super great, but she's not completely gross either. She might re-wear an outfit or have blood under her fingernails if she comes back from a mission.

    Anything else? Nope

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Sometimes Ellie hangs out around the Gallows, where she'll spend time stargazing and reading and painting. If she goes out it'll probably be with somebody, usually Clarisse. They visit the city together, or they head out into the mountains on their days off, either for day trips or to camp overnight.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Ellie paints, sketches, reads, plays the dulcimer, and sings sometimes. All of them would be fairly easy to catch her at aside from the singing.

What's common knowledge about their social life? General reputation for being friendly enough and good to work with, but tends to confide in just a few people. She is openly dating Clarisse La Rue, though they're very professional about it when they work together. She and Abby used to have a tension around them but now they're almost what could be called friendly.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Ellie pissed off a cabbage seller like a year ago when she knocked Abby into the cart. He probably remembers their faces.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Extremely huge mage sympathizer, and will tell anyone where to shove it if they start in on elves.

Anything else? Naur but I'll think of something as soon as I post this

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Ellie's in the Scouting division, and she works on combat-oriented stuff, espionage and infiltration, and all the nasty stuff that implies. She's also the Griffon Keeper, which means she runs both the aerie and the stables.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Ellie's been regularly taking shifts in the stables since the beginning and now runs it. She's really hands-on and will do a good bit of the cleaning and exercising herself with all kinds of mounts. She also has a hand in ambient art around the Gallows, and usually gets out her dulcimer at party-type events. She's a courier as part of her regular duties so she'll usually ask people if they need anything delivered near where she's headed.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Ellie generally doesn't say exactly where she's going, but Clarisse usually knows the general area or city. She's here in the Gallows most of the time but it's not uncommon for her to be gone for several days at a stretch.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Ellie's pretty much never at her desk so it's empty. Otherwise, find her in the dining hall, the archery range or with the griffons.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Ellie's an archer, so she comes out every other day or so to sink a quiver full of arrows and get her mind right, just keeping limber. Sometimes she'll be willing to give others tips, and on the rare occasion she'll work with someone else on knife-fighting.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Part of Ellie's job is offering griffon riding and training with other mounts, so if you want to learn about that, she's the first person others will point to. She can also teach you about 50 ways to kill a man, but that's a personal ask.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Friendly enough but generally unremarkable otherwise. A hard worker, and a hands-off manager. Bad at delegating and keeping itemized records. Patient and good at teaching. Will sometimes say something really fucked up about her home world like it's normal.

Anything else? As above, so below.

    Abby, Forces

    [personal profile] armd 2024-02-25 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Thank god the housing spreadsheet is right there so I can remember where all of my characters live. Abby lives on the fourth floor of the old templar tower in room B with her dog Wagner and her human Clarisse la Rue

What might neighbors notice? Abby is typically up and at-'em early and leaves the tower with her dog in tow for a big morning run. She is very easy to be neighbours with because she doesn't spend a lot of time in her room. If she is there, she's got her nose in a book. Sometimes there are horrible sweaty nightmares but she's not too loud in her sleep

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? There is sometimes a rock with Abby's face painted on it by the door (Edgard made it and gave it to her one Satinalia). It functions as a door-stop and will sometimes end up on the wrong side of it. Smells like eau de Mabari (the door not the rock) (Actually, probably also the rock, Wags will have slobbered on it at some point)

What about inside? Abby is mostly-neat. She tries to be neat. There is a bookshelf on her side of the room and it is completely full; there is a structurally unsound bookstack near her bed and what she's actually reading on the bedside table. Clothes sometimes go on the floor. The dog sleeps on the end of her bed and leaves half-chewed sticks/pinecones lying around for people to step on with bare feet

How accessible is it? Friends are allowed in the room. Ellie Williams is allowed in the room. Abby won't typically invite anybody over tho, cuz if you're gonna hang out together she'll suggest either going outside of the Gallows or to the (insert communal Gallows area). It'd be totally normal if your character had never seen her room even if they're close

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Abby eats all meals. Sometimes if it looks like you aren't gonna eat that she will also eat your meal. She likes to find somebody to sit with in the dining hall, or doing 'takeaways' (eating on the move). Sadly, she typically talks with her mouth full and will wolf her food down (apocalypse baby manners)

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Abby would rather be in the baths alone but it's fine if other people are there, whatever. She's typically in-and-out no nonsense, unless it's a hair-washing day (or a rare day where she'll bring her book and soak while reading)

What's their hygiene like? Good. Abby washes every day (right after she's done exercising) and she usually smells like pine soap (her favourite scent). Conversely she isn't concerned about dirt/mud/blood so her clothing/boots can get pretty dirty before she cares enough to change them

Anything else? She has a few items of clothing that have survived coming through the rift but she doesn't wear them often. The black singlet has become a pyjama/lounging around shirt

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? If Abby isn't in the library she's probably out, walking around, exploring, moving her legs. She likes to take the ferry to Kirkwall and hunt around for places she hasn't been; hiking up Sundermount is another enjoyable pastime

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Seeing Abby reading is a very common occurrence, as is playing with her dog or fucking around in the training yard with her mace. Rare sightings include yoga, animal-watching (+ birds; also good at tracking animals by their prints) and making bread

What's common knowledge about their social life? It is probably now becoming common knowledge that Ellie and Abby no longer 'hate' each other (or at least they're getting along). They haven't publicly sniped at each other for a long time and can be seen together occasionally (albeit with Clarisse in-between them; it's not a young lesbian rifter polycule but it's not NOT a young lesbian rifter polycule). She's on good terms with pretty much everybody and, if she won't come over to talk to somebody upon seeing them, she will at least wave and call out/say hi in passing. She has a mild feud brewing with Wysteria because all of her opinions are bad and somebody has to tell her that in public every time she opens her mouth

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? She's definitely known down at the markets because she goes there for food pretty often and is now wise to when she is potentially being ripped off; also known by bookshop owners. Well-liked by anybody who bakes bread because she will drop everything to get a fresh roll

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Loudly sympathetic to rifter-rights and doesn't want to be put in a fucking circle thanks; this will extend out to mages when given the opportunity to

Anything else? Somebody once told her she's very obviously a rifter and that kind of offended her

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Abby is in Forces and Project Sashamiri

Do they regularly assist with anything else? She does guard duty here and there, will run training/sparring sessions for anybody who asks and shelves books in the library for Mobius most days

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? She's probably more in the Gallows and around but she'll go where she's told to without comment (unless she thinks it's stupid). It's easy to find her/she isn't secretive about her work

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? She has a desk in the Forces working area that is heavily populated with books and papers and it looks like chaos but she knows where everything is. Don't touch it

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Yeah loads of time! She's usually working out there, keeping limber with her big fuck-off mace and practicing her aim with the shard in her hand (it shoots blasts now). If somebody from Forces walks past she'll shout at them to join and boo loudly if they decline

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Would teach yoga to somebody who asked nicely and wasn't a freak about it, Benedict; would help anybody with fitness/training queries. She grew up around doctors and knows more first aid than your average apocalypse-survivor; if you need stitches and you don't want to bother a healer, Abby will take care of that for you

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? I think she would have a good reputation. She can be blunt and seem unapproachable because she's tall and muscular and has a resting frown but she's fine to follow orders and will generally put her hand up for most things and work without complaining, even when the conditions are quite shit. Your character will probably know, by now, that if they're paired up with Abby for something involving griffons she will dig her heels in and complain loudly before she folds. She has acrophobia and will need to be reassured while she's up high. This is more or less the only annoying thing about her; overall she's a good colleague, pretty loyal, used to slugging it through shitty situations and will help out willingly where she can

Anything else? Sometimes there are dad jokes

    [personal profile] exequy 2024-02-25 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? In the Gallows, mage tower, fifth floor, room D. (His floor mates are Nell, Ellie, Ellis, and Vega. Hi.) He has a retired messenger raven named Talas who lives in his room.

What might neighbors notice? Quiet. The occasional stray wisp. Probably three nights a week on average he doesn't make it back to the Gallows at all and comes up to change in the morning instead. Talas might occasionally try to fly in someone else's window.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Not much.

What about inside? Barebones and looks neat unless you open any drawers or his travel chest, at which point you discover his method for cleaning the room is to throw everything into a container and slam it shut. The corner where Talas' perch has been set up is also a mess, because bird. Bird shit. Bird tear apart twigs. Bird spill food. Etc.

How accessible is it? He leaves the door open if he's awake and inside and not naked, because he prefers not to feel contained, but if anyone tries to come in he'll meet them at the door and block it in a very unwelcoming way.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Breakfast he will grab and go, lunch and dinner he'll sometimes sit down and eat. If one of his very small number of friends isn't around he'll sit on the edge of the room, eat quickly, and bolt. If someone he wants to talk to is there he might hang out a little.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Yes, daily. He's not at all worried about being naked. Might be caught looking at other people in consideration. But for the most part he's in and out and pretty utilitarian about it.

What's their hygiene like? Usually smells like soap at the beginning of the day, but may smell more like sweat and spilled liquor at the end. His stubble is carefully curated rather than neglect.

Anything else? He has a wisp or two around a lot of the time and due to his special spirit-mind-reading powers he can see through their eyes, which he frequently uses to see who's behind him and what they're doing if someone is in the room with him.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? He goes to the city as often as not, except if it's raining he's not always willing to endure getting wet on the ferry/walk. When he stays in the Gallows he's on the reclusive side.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Drinking, gambling (and losing), starting fistfights with dockhands (and losing), picking people up for sex. All pretty easy to notice. He teaches his raven tricks, plays with wisps kind of like they're puppies except he would be furious if someone said that's what he's doing, exercises, does some bone-based crafting (burning designs into skulls for example), and occasionally pretends to read a book but never finishes it.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Few genuine friends, especially these days. Gets along better with other mages than with anyone else. Nell is his best friend and it isn't impossible to pick up on the fact that that sometimes involves benefits. Not once in nearly seven years of being around has he ever once coming even close to seeming to be in a relationship with anyone, but he's very open about being DTF (as long as you have never cried over a cut finger in front of him).

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? Known for being a problem. There are many places he can't go because he owes someone there money or has been banned for breaking things fighting. He's subtle enough about being a mage (no staff, doesn't bring it up) that not everyone knows, but some do. And he has a lot of friends and connections within the rebel mage army who he's in touch with and will meet with on his own time.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? He fought a war with the rebel mages but will still sometimes argue with people like he wants Circles back. Does not seem particularly aware other problems exist. Visibly religious (attending services and so on) with a limit to how much blasphemy he finds funny. General antipathy toward Orlais.

Anything else? He used to have the possessed mummies of his sister and a more distant great-great aunt in the dungeon, for reasons, but they've been relocated. Everyone is welcome.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Forces. (Was Scouting in the past, almost solely on the strength of being able to use spirit wisps as spies.)

Do they regularly assist with anything else? He's a griffon rider, so he looks after Mouse in particular and will help with the others as needed. Has been pulled in for Research assists for spirit-related things in the past.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Either in the Gallows or on official assignments, no secrecy, but he does sometimes on his time off meet with rebel mage friends in or outside of Kirkwall for mage problem conversations/planning.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Sometimes he'll stop and lean over a desk in the Forces work room to fill out his paperwork or write a report or something on a hard surface so he can drop it off right away. Otherwise if he has to sit down and work he'll do it in the library.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Some staff fighting. If he has the place to himself he might try throwing elemental magic at a training dummy, but if other people show up he'll stop.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? No.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Surly, argumentative, difficult to manage and work with, but at the end of the day (or like when the enemy is bearing down and continuing to argue about how to approach them would be suicidal) willing to follow orders. Bad at doing paperwork on time.

Anything else? Whenever someone dies in his vicinity there's a good chance it makes him throw up or otherwise need a moment. Really fun capstone to Forces fights.

    Clarisse, Forces

    [personal profile] laruetheday 2024-02-26 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Clarisse officially lives in the templar tower, 4th floor, with Abby Anderson and Wags the dog. She spends approximately half the nights with Ellie in the mage tower, 5th floor, so she kind of unofficially lives there too.

What might neighbors notice? As I said, she spends half the time in her room and half the time in Ellie's. There's no official schedule to when she sleeps where, it's just vibes. Either way Clarisse is typically someone who goes to bed on the earlier side and wakes up early to go work out. If she can't sleep she paces in the hallway until she tires herself out.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Sometimes there's a rock with Abby's face painted on it outside their door.

What about inside? Clarisse doesn't have a lot of STUFF so any clutter is probably dirty clothes on the floor or weapons leaning up against the wall, stuff like that. She's used to sharing space with other people, so it's definitely not as messy as someone might think.

How accessible is it? Clarisse doesn't really invite people over, she'd prefer to hang in a neutral space. But if someone came and knocked on her door and wanted to talk to her, she wouldn't turn them away.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? If Clarisse is in the Gallows, she's at the dining hall for pretty much every meal. Sometimes she'll take food up to Ellie's room instead, but not super often. She eats a lot and eats fast. If she walks in and doesn't see anyone she's friendly with she'll default to sitting by herself, but she'll sit with someone she's friends with or even someone she doesn't know super well if they invite her to.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? She uses the public baths and loooves to soak, especially after a workout. But if there are other people in there, she'll be quick in and out. She's honestly less uncomfortable being naked around people than she is with the thought of having to make small talk while she's naked.

What's their hygiene like? It's... okay, lmao. She's not disgusting, but she could probably wash (and lbr, brush) her hair more often. She bathes every day but she'll rewear clothes as long as they don't smell, even if they're kinda dirty.

Anything else? Related to the question above, when she was new to Riftwatch she definitely wore the same hoodie for a month straight and definitely wasn't washing it. She still wears it to sleep in, and it does get washed these days, just probably not as often as it should.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Clarisse does go into Kirkwall a lot when she has time off; she likes to walk around and people watch, and grab something to eat. She also likes to go into the mountains with Ellie or fly around with Blunder Supreme.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Clarisse is pretty notoriously not a reader and has probably never stepped foot in the library. In her off time she likes to train or do other physical activities like hiking, running, rock climbing. She's also gotten into forging lately thanks to Jayce, so she can be found working on armor or weapons in the forge.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Clarisse is one of those people who's not afraid to talk to people but who tends to hang around the same few. She's most likely to be found with Ellie or Abby (sometimes even both of them at the same time these days, gasp), and the fact that she and Ellie have been dating for about a year is not a secret. She's friendly with a good handful of people now (it took a while but we got there, fam) and can be found spending time with them from time to time too. She did get into it with Wysteria over the crystals a while back and while it's not a feud, they're definitely still awkward/snippy around each other.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? Mostly not, but she's definitely been threatened with getting kicked out from some of the taverns in Kirkwall.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Very pro-rifter and honestly doesn't think a lot about anything outside of that.

    Anything else? Nahhh

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. She's in Forces and rides one of the griffons (Blunder Supreme)!

Do they regularly assist with anything else? She pulls guard duty shifts and helps out in the infirmary sometimes.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Clarisse is mooostly in the Gallows but she does go on a fair amount of missions, usually group ones. It's more rare for her to go off on her own for one or with just a couple others, but it has happened. If asked, and if it's not a secret, she'll tell people where she's going.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? She does have a desk but she doesn't like to use it, so she's more likely to work in her or Ellie's room. She almost always asks someone she trusts to look over something she's written before she turns it in.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? The training yard is one of the places Clarisse is most likely to be. She often trains with her spear, Maimer, or with a shortsword, and it's not uncommon to see her running laps or doing pushups or something. She loooves to spar and she's a really good wrestler, so watch out.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? She'd be down to teach someone to ride a griffon or to help someone train in weapons or combat, but they'd probably have to ask her first.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Clarisse has a reputation for being good in the field and taking her work with Forces seriously, but she also has a reputation for being kind of short-tempered and self-absorbed around the Gallows. Most people wouldn't describe her as friendly, but she's also not seen as being particularly mean, and definitely not cruel. She's mostly inoffensive, one of those people you have to get to know better before their good qualities outweigh the bad. She can be kind of socially awkward at times but she means well, and she's very loyal.

Anything else? She knows how to embroider pretty well, but it's a secret :) She also does great stitches.

    Gela, Diplo🦕

    [personal profile] sprent 2024-02-26 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Gela lives in one of the shared quarters rooms in the templar tower. She's living by herself at the moment but I think I shall acquire a pet duck for her

What might neighbors notice? Gela barricades the door to her room at night, so neighbours may notice the shifting of furniture at 'bedtime' o'clock (10, 11pm).

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? There are definitely pungent tea brewing smells w floral/perfumey notes. Gela has also done a little sign for her door with her name on it and decorated it appropriately. She leaves her door closed when she's in there but the sign encourages knocking

What about inside? Messy! Colourful! There are things everywhere: several jars with random bunches of flowers/dried things/grasses/leaves sticking out of them, piles of fabric, boxes containing sewing supplies, interestingly shaped buttons in stacks on the windowsill, clothes currently being embellished with thread/patches/applique hanging up or spread out across her desk and strands of hair. Everywhere. Everywhere there is hair

How accessible is it? Gela would have friends over, and it does not matter if you are newly friends or if you have been friends for a while! But she doesn't usually offer to have people visit only because she knows her room is very chaotic. She would rather go visit you

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Gela eats her three square meals a day, usually in the dining hall. She brews her own teas and will offer you some if you come and sit with her

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Yes, the public baths are lovely. She has long baths in the evenings and will typically chatter away to anybody who is sharing the bath with her at the time

What's their hygiene like? Good, but sometimes her hair will have things in it, like flower bits or thin sticks or strands of loose thread. She smells floral and of tea leaves most of the time

    Anything else? Naur

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? She would try to find somebody to spend time with if she could, otherwise she can be found wandering around Kirkwall, or in the Gallows' gardens if the weather is nice!

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Gela likes making clothes and will take WIPs around with her in a bag and work on them in public (so long as she is in a place where food does not live). She also enjoys nature walks and being outside, and gossiping; her ideal activity is walking and talking with a friend (or not even a friend, anybody who will chat with her). People-watching is also nice, so sometimes she'll find a cozy spot and sit with a big mug of tea for hours and zone out.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Gela is definitely a social butterfly. She tries very hard to be friendly to almost everybody, and she will go out of her way to do favours or run errands if asked. She wants other people to think the best of her and like her, so she seldom says no to anything, is always around to provide a sympathetic ear/shoulder to cry on, etc. She is scared of mages/anybody who can do magic. She doesn't display this fear openly, but will be overly polite and respectful to mages and then quickly get out of their way.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? She is known across the body of local merchants in Kirkwall because she barters firmly with them and also raids their stalls for gossip whenever she's about. Beloved by fabric sellers. Easily recognisable as That-Woman-From-Riftwatch-Who-Talks-Too-Much by NPCs who do not like to be talked cheerfully to.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Hates the Mortalitasi; will never elaborate on why, but if they're brought up in conversation, you'll hear about it.

Anything else? Sort of obsessed with healers for some reason and will try to pin any healer down and ask them increasingly weird and vague questions about health problems that totally aren't hers, swear

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Gela is in Diplomacy and she is also Riftwatch's current Trademaster

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Delivering messages, looking over reports for other people where needed, morale boosting

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Typically in the Gallows and working in her office space. When she's gone, it's usually because she is moseying around Kirkwall and trying to catch any interesting, idle gossip, pursuing potential trade relationship leads or discussing shipment logistics down at the docks

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Messy desk, many papers, cups of half-drunk tea everywhere, biscuit crumbs. Maybe a duck at some point. Keep an eye out for a duck

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Nope, Gela is very rarely seen at the training courtyard. She is strictly a pacifist and does not hide this. However, she does have secret knife lessons with Ellie every so often, but takes great care to keep anybody else from finding out.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Embroidery, happily! Sewing. Ice skating. Anything to do with Diplomacy: how to have cheerfully bland conversations with somebody else that reveal absolutely nothing about yourself, disguise-work w costuming, bartering, writing sensitive letters, how to tell somebody else really bad news, etc

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? A cheerful and bubbly presence who discloses very little about herself unless directly asked; even then she will tell people things but never expound upon then (i.e she has a bad relationship with her father. Why? Mysteryyyyyy). Some people may have noticed that when she first got to the Gallows she was faking an accent and speaking in a higher pitch, but she's stopped doing that now. Some PCs may find her strange and slightly overbearing. Some PCs may not approve of her never putting herself into combat situations but too bad

    Anything else? Quack

Also proud of her for giving up the voice faking. She and Bastien need to be buddies more. Coming for her soon, look out.

    Flint, Forces Boss

    [personal profile] katabasis 2024-02-26 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Lives in the apartment adjacent to the Forces division office with Silver, though they've been having weird late night chats and operating under odd hours for as long as Flint's been divhead so fully possible to have overlooked this Development.

What might neighbors notice? Flint's a fairly unobtrusive neighbor and/or the apartment door is too deep in the office to transmit much noise into the corridor. Works late. Sometimes mysteriously absent during normal business hours. Not uncommon for Flint to show back up well after the last ferry (he has a hookup when it comes to boats ok).

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Apartment door remains resolutely closed during office hours.

What about inside? Relatively tidy and spare. Lots of books. Candle enthusiast (the better to read by). All the furniture has mismatched vibes, owing to the fact that he recycled most of the furniture his predecessor left behind and filled in the gaps with whatever the fuck else.

How accessible is it? Visitors to the apartment are rare. After hours guests to the div office may get a glimpse through a half open door, but broadly speaking what entertaining occurs happens in the divhead office's seating area. Bedrooms are a luxury and also private???

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Mostly takes his meals in the office if he's in the Gallows. On the rare instances he's spotted in the dining hall, he might come sit with you and the vibe will be like you're being graded on how you breakfast.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Yes, but mostly uses the public baths to soak. The scrubbing and shaving type bathing and grooming happens upstairs.

What's their hygiene like? Well groomed, but not floral fresh. Wears a musky/peppery smelling beard oil; washes up on the reg but isnt fastidious about a full on bath quite as often as a guy who walks up and down umpteen flights of stairs every day might.

Anything else? Typically a sword that he's rarely actually been seen using for the last year+.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Has a series of schemes occurring, and frequently shows up in Kirkwall. Sometimes they're the expected places—various Lowtoen taverns, etc—, and sometimes they're not—what's Flint doing at this fancy Hightown party? Local man has 10 too many irons in the fire to really have downtime.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Book nerd. Keeps a book in his traveling pack, even. Usually they're annoyingly dense reads—philosophy! The Thedosian classics! —, but occasionally he can be found reading some hot trash because it's what was closest to hand.

What's common knowledge about their social life? That it's highly selective, and he's some kind of snob.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? Known as a hardass in Lowtown, and generally not someone to be fucked with (though odds of that being diminished the more time stretches between the present tense and 'Hey didn't a Captain Flint used to terrorize the northern seas?' is not NOT a factor). There's a song about him being a cannibal that occasionally crops up, and idle chat sometimes reemerges in Hightown that 1) he and Madame de Cedoux may have been an item, 2) he personally corrupted one of the de Coucy youths.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Fuck Tevinter.

Anything else? Someoje call my bluff and make me write some Kirkwall schemes.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Head of Forces division, but has historical offloaded an incredible amount of the day to day work on Marcus, Barrow, and his assistant. Presently short the latter, so is doing a lot more of the paperwork and leading more of the weekly divhead meetings than is usual, and clearly isn't enthused about it.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? He's busy.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Typically in the Gallows when he isn't off Elsewhere. Mystery wrapped in an engima etc. (Sometimes 'Elsewhere' is just his second gig as Still Technically Oversees a Ship in the Harbor.)

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Forces divhead office. The office has a cluttered-by-merit-of-spinning-a-lot-of-plates, actively working quality to it. A not-great painting of Flint's ship, the Walrus, is over the mantle.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Post-Arlathan adventures where he sacrificed his abilities as a swordsman, it wasn't unheard of to see him working to regain that. Seemed to be going slowly. No longer shows up in the yard.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Knows a lot of shit about sailing, tactics, Tevinter military, etc. Is a philosophy enthusiast, reads a few languages, knows all the principles of good swordplay. You must be a Level 10 friend or there must be a pressing work-relevant reason to be taught any of these things.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Calculating, and probably doesn't have time or interest in your shit. Big 'If you're talking to me, it better be a huge problem and you'd better have at least considered some potential solutions' energy.

Anything else? Sometimes he shows up to the work parties and is surprisingly fun. He has been known to dance at Satinalia shindigs! And is good at it!

    Barrow, Master of Works

    [personal profile] thereneverwas 2024-02-26 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? In a double room on the third floor of the old mage tower, with Lazar and one million cats (ok it's just a single litter of adults but it feels like a million sometimes).

What might neighbors notice? The cats are more or less allowed run of the tower (you're welcome for the lack of pests), and the door that Lazar insists on closing and locking is often left open to admit them, because otherwise they will stand outside of it and scream to come in.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Not a lot! Just that there are cats, because there's usually at least one hanging around.

What about inside? There aren't a lot of personal touches to Barrow's side, but he keeps it as neat as possible and does not interfere with Lazar's gallery of poorly-drawn tits. They class up the place.

How accessible is it? Not terribly, it being the Thedosian equivalent of Permanent Bachelor Pad with the mattress on the floor, or at least it would be if all the available rooms weren't kind of the same. When Lazar succeeds in keeping the door locked it is even less accessible.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Nearly all of Barrow's meals are taken in the dining hall, with the occasional exception on the mainland if he's up for the trip or feels like treating someone. His table manners are respectable, the like one would find in a strictly religious rural community rather than nobility, but he chews with his fucking mouth closed and knows the difference between a spoon and a fork.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? He tends to go pretty early in the morning and hang out for a bit to quiet the achy joints, and will sometimes return in the evening for the same reason, but doesn't do this every day.

What's their hygiene like? Every morning Barrow shaves, and by every evening his stubble has returned completely. He keeps himself respectably tidy, doesn't like to smell or be an eyesore.

    Anything else? He snores sometimes.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Often Barrow can be found in this or that preferred Lowtown dive, gambling and drinking or hanging out to people-watch. He's very much a Sitting kind of guy and doesn't get up to much mischief unless it's specific to dunking on someone he likes.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Launching acorns with his miniature siege engines when he feels like starting shit. Reading increasingly often, when he can get up to the library. It's not uncommon for him to get out a pack of cards in the dining hall and play Solitaire, or rope someone into Wicked Grace if they look bored.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Kind of a quiet sort but friendly enough, there isn't anyone who Barrow seems to openly dislike, even if he doesn't visibly have any super close friends. He's willing to talk to anyone who talks to him first, but doesn't seek out a lot of social interaction unless he trusts the recipient not to be weird. He'll often eat with the likes of Bastien & Byerly, Edgard, and Mobius, and affectionately picks on Ellie, Clarisse, and Abby when he gets the chance.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? He's known for his stature and not much else. He behaves himself pretty well and doesn't pick fights he can't win (which isn't many of them, to be fair).

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? ha ha ha ha ha ha

Anything else? He's probably kind of an enigma to anyone who thinks too hard about it.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Forces, Master of Works (in charge of the Gallows' siege weaponry)

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Every morning he offers weapons training exercises to new recruits and anyone else who wants them, and is happy to provide one-on-one tutelage. This has been his "job" for years and he takes it seriously.
He also picks up guard shifts every so often.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? It's usually easy to guess he's off slumming it somewhere when he's not in the Gallows-- he's not a hard man to find.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Outside whenever he can. He tends to stay away from the workroom in favor of sprawling his materials on a table in the library when he has something in particular he needs to work on, but he cleans it up in reasonable time unless he has fallen asleep there.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? SO much time. He has a little setup with a chair and table near the sparring equipment so he can do Master of Works stuff while overseeing weapons practice, and spends a lot of time out there because Outside Is Nice. He'll tutor or spar with anyone upon request, and offers pointers from his throne when the occasion calls for it.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? see above

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Decent guy, friendly enough, can be funny, doesn't make waves. Good to have around in a pinch, both because of his particular skillsets and because he's built like a brick shithouse and can often deescalate problems just by looming nearby. Does his job and minds his business.

Anything else? Always happy to handwave stuff!

    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? In a double room in the old mage tower, technically by himself but his water pipe has actually occupied the room longer, so he's kind of its roommate.

What might neighbors notice? He generally comes crawling in pretty late (if at all) and usually drunk and/or high on something or another, but still gets himself up at a decent time to slink down to the baths.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? The place just about always smells of elfroot smoke and incense, which is pleasant but potentially stifling.

What about inside? Lavishly decorated with pillows and drapings that have been picked up and added to the hookah lounge aspect over the years. It's the space of a Tevinter Lordling on a very tight budget.

How accessible is it? When Benedict is inside smoking, the door (and window) are left open for anyone to walk in. When he's out, it's shut but not locked, perhaps as a gesture of good faith.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? He takes most of his meals in the dining hall, often sitting by himself with a book unless there's specifically someone he knows won't mind his company. His table manners are impeccable and he comports himself so fancily it's almost comical.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? The baths are probably Benedict's favorite place, and he is there primping and lounging at least twice a day.

What's their hygiene like? Almost his money goes toward fancy bath products. He smells amazing at any given time, and his hair is always shiny.

Anything else? He also waxes religiously, but this is probably done in his room so nobody can hear him whimpering.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Increasingly over the last year or so Benedict has spent less and less time in the Gallows during his off-hours, tending to disappear into the Lowtown pub scene from the evening onward.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? He used to do a bit of drawing and painting, and likes to read, but lately his hobbies seem to have consisted almost exclusively of going out and getting shitfaced in various ways.

What's common knowledge about their social life? A bit of a loner, but is on friendly terms with/can be seen hanging around Bastien, Byerly, Abby, and occasionally (surprisingly?) Edgard in the dining hall or wherever they might run into one another.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? He has succeeded in building for himself a reputation of being rarely sober and down for just about any man who pays attention to him. He's also, more positively, known among some Hightown vendors for having expensive taste in scents and fabrics. Most people who pay attention have guessed by now that he's Tevene.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? He actually keeps most of these pretty close to his chest, but will deny any attachment to the Venatori if accused, and occasionally slips up with a microaggression when talking to elves or Qunari.

Anything else? sorry but he's Your disaster

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Diplomacy, Personnel Officer (Fantasy Recruitment)

Do they regularly assist with anything else? He'll help out with general Diplomacy busywork when necessary, since he's already been doing it for years and knows where everything is.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? He keeps religious office hours and is easy to find, as long as it's not post-dinnertime.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? His office, which he keeps very neat and is still decorating to his (opulent) tastes. He likes to know where everything is, and clearly takes pride in appearances.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Occasionally he'll practice on a dummy with his staff, only if nobody's around to harass him about it-- he's gotten a bit shy about his combat abilities, such that they are.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? He's glad to tutor anyone and/or offer resources in both old and modern Tevene.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Despite his origins, well-mannered and generally unremarkable; people in Diplomacy would know him as a hard worker, sometimes even a people-pleaser, who can be more concerned with others' impression of him than he is with his own satisfaction.

Outside of that, his particular blend of background and self-consciousness gives him an aloof demeanor, and he could easily be seen as snobby or judgmental by someone who doesn't know better. (to be fair, on occasion they'd be right)

Where does your character live? With whom? Currently lives in the cheapest, scummiest tavern imagined by man. Or in the bed of whoever agreed to take him home.

What might neighbors notice? He is out there in public spaces with a sword. Two of them. Practicing. Every damned day. Also he's found a lot of public places where to sit back, drink wine, and people watch.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Rented room, nothing fancy.

What about inside? He carries literally everything he owns (all five belongings) with him at all times so his living space is sparse. Perpetually messy bed.

How accessible is it? He doesn't have much in the way of friends yet, but he is unfussy about people coming in and out. Again: everything he owns is basically on his person unless he's asleep or bathing.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? He eats methodically, like he's thinking about every meal and every morsel of food. He is known to drink a lot but never seems to be very drunk.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? He's in the public baths at least once a day, and he has zero shame about it. He's full dick and ass out. He's got some scars, the most prominent is the B that's been burned on his inner arm. He spends a lot of time in there.

What's their hygiene like? His hair tends to be braided, now that he's found people to help him out with that. He's also pretty clean, and he doesn't usually smell bad. After he's sweated or gotten filthy he's pretty much headed to the baths, and his clothes - okay, his loincloth - is generally also kept remarkably clean, considering he owns possibly 2.

    Anything else?

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? He's either training, or he's in Lowtown. He knows how to have a good time and probably is picking up a reputation for it. Also for good dick.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Drinker, fighter, smiler, likes to listen to people talk.

What's common knowledge about their social life? He barely knows anyone here (hint. HINT. HIIIIIINT) so his social life is almost zero.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? He was responsible for a stabbing - or was a stabbing just happening around him? It's a mystery, no one really seems to know precisely what happened that night. Signs point to Benedict being there. Any ladies of the night - or ladies who like the night - have discussed him. Positively, he drank his respects women juice.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Publicly known that he was enslaved, generally does not favor Tevinter.

    Anything else?

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. HE IS A WANDERING SOUL (he doesn't have anything going for him. That should change)

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Will correct poor fighting form in a way that will make you feel like you should have never picked up a weapon.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? No division yet, so he's just a loiterer.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Training courtyard.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? This is where my man shines: his style is flashy and with two swords. He will spar anyone who wants it, and he's uh. Bad? Yeah lets say that, bad. Bad at teaching, but he will do it even though he's a rough teacher. He likes to win, and if he's fighting he's almost always laughing or smiling.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? He really doesn't think he has any skills outside of fighting. Any attempts to ask him to teach will result in his most confused face.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? He's very congenial, honestly, and mostly has a reputation of being an affable guy who likes to laugh and joke. Something happened with Benedict recently that he won't talk about but he clearly Doesn't Like That Guy, but outside of that he seems genuinely willing to chat, flirt, and hang out with anyone who shows even the slightest interest.

That said: he was a famous gladiator. Basically he is "that famous sport guy who got famous for sport" except in this case, sport is killing people. There has probably been chatter about watching a gladiator train, which for some people, might be their Thing.

    cosima niehaus, head of research

    [personal profile] youwonscience 2024-02-27 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Fourth floor of the former mage tower. She was the only one on the floor for a while, but now Astrid has moved in and she really will say hello soon, she's just got a lot on her plate right now. She's been playing with the idea of getting a pet, but see the prior comment about full plates.

What might neighbors notice? Cosima's something of a night owl, but considerate; current or former neighbors would know there's rarely noise after midnight. The main indication is candlelight under the door. Unusually, she can and does play background music when she's in her room, usually mid-morning or after supper.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? In addition to the aforementioned music, she tends to leave her door cracked when she's present during the day, so people can see:

What about inside? Cosima's room tends messy but not gross. She's on top of laundry, no food lying around, etc. However, she tends to throw pillows, textiles and other unbreakable possessions in a variety of unlikely places. She 100% has a clothes chair. Papers and books are not treated in any way that can damage them, but are piled on a variety of unconventional surfaces.

How accessible is it? While she mostly encourages people to meet her in the Research offices for work matters, her door is often open when she's in and she's always quick to invite a passing friend or neighbor in to shoot the shit or have a smoke. Any amount of neutral-to-friendly relationship will get you in the door. She does keep the door closed while she's asleep (and, these days, locked).

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Cosima routinely eats in the dining hall unless she gets involved in a project and loses track of time (not constant, but not unheard of). She'll not infrequently sleep through breakfast but is regular with both lunch and dinner. She tends to look for others open to company who she can sit with, but she doesn't mind eating alone if she needs to. She's a vegetarian mostly, though she'll occasionally make an exception for shellfish (the options for vegetarian proteins in Thedas are, she admits, less extensive than home).

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Cosima uses the public baths sometimes, though she has a washtub in her room that is her more regular practice. When she is in the public baths, though, she seems relaxed and unhurried about it.

What's their hygiene like? Cosima's hair forever mea culpa that the canon stuck her with the white girl dreads, they're going to be in the icons forever these days has inevitably shown the effects of several years in Thedas, a slightly more relaxed look than what she arrived with. She bathes and washes her hands probably more than most natives do. When she uses scents, she tilts herbal (think rosemary, sage, etc.)

Anything else? She doesn't cover her tattoos, and is happy to chat about them if anyone asks.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? While she keeps busy, Cosima does also recognize the importance of relaxing. She likes getting out on the ocean a bit when the weather allows, sometimes paying for a day trip to nowhere in particular just to get on the water. She also heads out to Lowtown for a drink and a game of cards sometimes, though she's more likely to go if she's with another Riftwatch agent than on her own.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Cosima likes to dance, and will do it both in her room and in public if the occasion arises. She's also a fan of games. She's got the hang of Wicked Grace and is happy to play, but she's also keen to learn new ones from Thedas or elsewhere.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Cosima is friendly and has been building some relationships, but there's no one person she seems especially close to at present. Long-time Riftwatchers will know she was romantically involved with Herian Amsel, to the point where they were formerly engaged, but they are no longer in touch. If she's had romantic entanglements since then, they've been outside the Gallows and not serious enough to be perceived within it.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? Cosima is a rifter and doesn't pass for not, even if she doesn't flaunt her strangeness purposely. As a result of that and her tenure, she's certainly someone a lot of people in Kirkwall know by sight. That said, she's friendly, polite, and a good tipper, so she has partisans. She's even gotten a few people she'd say rise to the level of friendly acquaintances, who she makes a point to see when she's out of the Gallows, though no one she's close enough to to keep her from heading back on the ferry.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? She's long been quietly but openly pro-mage rights. Her hatred for the Venatori has a personal bent to it beyond their status as Riftwatch opponents, but she generally keeps that in check.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Provost Cosima was fairly recently promoted from "provost's assistant" Cosima due to the departure of Tony Stark. While she's new to the leadership position, she has been a member of Research for many years. She keeps her fingers in a lot of pies, but her main focus has been split between the semi-biological nature of lyrium and its interaction with the Blight and the effect of rifts on local flora and fauna.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? She regularly pitches in at the infirmary and generally tries to lend a hand anywhere else her skills are needed when she's able.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Research is largely an indoor sport, especially for Cosima, who does not have a great track record with field work. She's in the Gallows most of the time. She does venture afield when necessary, especially to collect Fade-touched samples.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? She has a fancy new office that she's largely adapted to her use, though touches of its previous occupants remain. Her desk is always covered, though she has a system and can quickly put her hands on what she needs. In contrast, her work station for laboratory experiments is spotless. If you mess with the lab equipment she's using without asking, you may actually see her lose her temper.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Cosima is very rarely in the training yard for any reason.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Cosima has been passing on hygiene basics without prompting for years, though now that Strange is here, she can leave a lot of that to him. She's also eager to share what she knows about biology, and has (both on and off-screen) invited Riftwatch members to use the microscope with supervision to learn about cells. While the science stuff is volunteered, if gently nudged, she's happy to talk about her home world and to share songs, games or other cultural exchange-type items with those interested.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Cosima is kind and friendly, and may sometimes be misjudged as a bit of a pushover as a result. Those who have worked with her longer might add that she takes her work incredibly seriously, and that her kindness does not extend to people disrespecting her or her colleagues. While she still stands out in Thedas, she's also made it clear that she considers Riftwatch's work no less central to her than it is to Thedas natives. However she got here and however long she'll stay, this is her world now and she treats it that way.

    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Lives in the apartment adjacent to the Forces Div Head office with Flint. YMMV on whether or not this is noticeable; John's extremely irregular hours have continued uninterrupted

What might neighbors notice? Former neighbors probably note his door is habitually closed, but how weird is that really?

Otherwise, coming and goings are irregular. John keeps late hours, often showing back up in the Gallows well past the last ferry. No instruments, no pets (potential of a parrot looming on the horizon—) hilariously unpredictable arrivals and departures.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Defer to "Apartment door remains resolutely closed during office hours."

What about inside? John ruthlessly culled his amassed inventory in the move, and signs of his presence have materialized slowly. Most notably: his sea chest is stashed alongside Flint's. Most other notable objects have been stashed tidily away.

How accessible is it? Zero invitations to this space issued by John.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Likely to eat breakfast in the dining hall, but otherwise takes his meals in Kirkwall (where local charmer tends to eat for free.) Rarely deliberately seeks out company, but is welcoming of anyone who ends up at a table alongside him.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Unlikely to catch John in the public bath, he tends to pick low traffic times to frequent this space. Most of his grooming is managed upstairs, but if he intends to soak for an extended period of time, it is absolutely a late night or early morning endeavor.

What's their hygiene like? Clean. Takes advantage of life on land and easy access to clean, fresh water. Not keen on expensive scents, tends towards whatever the Gallows soap scent of the month is. Developed a fondness for a semi-expensive beard oil (thanks, Tony Stark) but that's the most notable addition to the routine.

Anything else? Uses a crutch to get around.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Habitually found in the dockside taverns and public houses around Lowtown. His Riftwatch work sometimes comes along with him, but generally his socializing in these spaces is an extension of his role as quartermaster on the Walrus and his interest in keeping track of public opinion in Kirkwall.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Walk into the right bar on the right night and it is possible to witness John Silver storytelling hour.

Are they frequently seen reading? Do they draw, but only in privacy so most people would never know?

What's common knowledge about their social life? A man who talks to everybody but is close with an extremely small number of people. It's exclusive out here.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? John's longest standing contact is Emlyn, local tavern owner. He is annoyingly well-liked across the board by most merchants and pub/tavern owners, where his connections are pretty straight-forward. Beyond that, he has cultivated a number of Hightown associations, where he is part actual acquaintance and part fun novelty to invite to salons and dinners, that fill his social calendar. Lots of miscellaneous contacts, lots of people whose name he knows, lots of general familiarity because John doesn't know what to do with himself other than try to shore up associations when he's stuck more or less in one place.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Hasn't stated anything outright, but has engaged in conversation about mage politics, and attended the Conclave as a passive observer at the time. Most readily available public opinion is opposition to Corypheus, Tevinter, etc.

Anything else? Give me an excuse to involve an NPC in any given thread.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Master of Information, shares an office with Petrana. Generally works on schemes to sway public opinion. Spent a lot of time working to get Antiva to cease trade with Tevinter, has turned attention back towards the Anderfels to see about stirring up some public dissent there.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? John likes to tag along on field work, but has notably dialed back his involvement over the past year after Granitefell. Generally likes to be involved, so it's really only a matter of time until he returns to field work in some respect.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Generally sticks close to Kirkwall, unless dispatched to go smooth talk someone on their home turf or assist on a team assignment. Day to day, he can usually be found somewhere in Kirkwall, if not the Gallows itself.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? John shares an office with Petrana, meaning there is an office with his name on it and a desk that has some items of his in it. But if he's in there, it's because he wants to hang out with Petrana. Generally, he likes to work either in one of the public spaces within the Gallows, ie a side courtyard, or he will take his work into Kirkwall and set up in the corner of a tavern.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Rarely. Has a sword, will practice with it once in a blue moon.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Schmoozing is his main skill, and while he can be prevailed upon to deploy this skill on someone else's behalf, it is unlikely he will ever sit down and walk someone through the philosophy of smooth-talking.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Congenial, easy to talk to, hard to actually know. (ie you've worked with this guy for x amount of years and what has he really told you about himself?) Friendly and willing to entertain conversation and shenanigans, but there is a clear distinction between his actual close connections and everyone else.

Anything else? Present at all work functions for some stretch of time. Very safe to handwave that your character has had low key, shoot the shit type conversations with him, because John can and will talk to anyone in close proximity to him.

    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Recently moved into the Diplomacy Div Head apartment. Feel free to have seen the many trips up and down the stairs involved in this process.

What might neighbors notice? Not much. She's a very chill, quiet neighbor. A handful of people have open door privileges to her office, but it's her kneejerk habit to entertain visitors elsewhere rather than invite people up to a room that requires them to walk through the Diplomacy office to get to.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Nothing, because her bedroom door is literally always closed now. She would tend to leave it ajar when she lived in one of the Gallows' single apartments, but no more.

What about inside? Presently, a disaster. Derrica moved literally everything and is presently in the process of rearranging the space to her taste. It'll take time.

How accessible is it? In flux. There are absolutely people who have an open invite, but whereas in her previous digs anyone could simply stroll in, now she's more likely to meet them in front of the Diplomacy fireplace than bring them all the way back into her room.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Typically has a very late breakfast, and has made a point of coming down for lunch, but has tended to either take a tray in the Diplo office or eat in Kirkwall when it comes to dinner.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Absolutely uses the public bath. Derrica has a whole routine, skin and hair care are a whole thing. A gal who takes moisturizing seriously. Oils are involved. Creams are involved. She blocks off time explicitly for it in her schedule. Loves a long soak in hot water. Isn't precious about the nudity, but has invested in a few lovely robes, etc, out of respect for differing attitudes about modesty.

What's their hygiene like? Prefers light, floral scents. Bathes regularly, takes a lot of pride in her appearance. Puts a good amount of effort into styling her hair into braids, the jewelry she chooses, etc.

Anything else? Drop by the Diplo office and visit while she figures out how to manage people in that space.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Off-time presently taken up by The Job, but habitually Derrica has a handful of taverns she likes in Lowtown. Has been known to spend that time with Loxley in his apartment in Kirkwall. She isn't likely to just take off and leave the city, though has spoken noncommittally in the past about taking time to travel north.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Socializing. Derrica likes dancing, likes music, likes to be in places where people are having a good time even if she can't directly participate. (ie she might not know how to play a card game but she'd like to drop in and watch, etc.) Has probably gone to the goat races in Kirkwall semi-regularly, will have seen a play if enough people are talking about it, etc. She likes being around other people and is pretty easy about the actual activity.

What's common knowledge about their social life? YMMV. She has pretty obvious connections to other mages and Rifters in the Gallows, and those are the people most easily identifiable as her friends.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? Every once in a while someone Derrica sailed with in the past will blow through Kirkwall and recognize her, and there are people in the city who she has tended to as a healer, but her closest connections are really among Riftwatch.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Mage Rights or bust.

Anything else? Give me an excuse to set a thread in some weird spot in Kirkwall.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Diplomacy Division Head, previously of Forces and leader of Project Haven.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Still blocks out time to assist in the infirmary, but has let go of her guard duty rotations.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Spends a lot more time in the Gallows these days; previously she would habitually go wherever was needed. Presently trying to find that happy medium of enjoying field work, and having a position that generally requires she stay close to the Gallows. (Or she perceives it to be that, which may evolve over time.)

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Has an office, will use it. Has not acquired a secretary and is uncertain if she wants one. Presently using that unoccupied desk as a space to organize her correspondence and other paperwork in order of urgency. Her desk is generally neat. There are a handful of items in this office that previously belonged to James Holden, and other items that she brought up from Project Haven, ie the mural Ellie made for her there, new curtains to hang over the shutters, etc.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Practices alone in the courtyard most mornings now, but will engage with others if invited. She has a more purposeful practice routine these days, and is working on branching out solely from fighting with magic. Show up at the right time and you can watch her doing push ups.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Always, always game to pass on first aid advice. Look even mildly overwhelmed in her proximity and she will volunteer her expertise. Beyond that, she has been known as a reliable source of information for incoming Rifters, and has worked in the past with helping people cross-train their field technique to work alongside mages and other magic users.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Kind, quick to offer a helping hand or an encouraging word.

    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Vega lives in a private room in the former mage tower, alone. Which is the way she likes it. To her outrage her beautiful and perfect mare, Sweet Lavender, is being kept in the Kirkwall stables, as if she is a normal horse!

What might neighbors notice? Muffled screaming into a pillow. If she has lost her temper, she will slam doors and stomp around. She seems to be a late riser

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? The door is kept tightly shut at all times so that people do not feel tempted to poke their noses where they don’t belong, or take her things (why wouldn’t you want her things)

What about inside? Meticulously neat and tidy, bed made, shoes neatly lined up by the door, clothes hung in the wardrobe. Everything has its place. There is a plant or two. She keeps her bow and quiver beside her desk which is covered in a fuckton of books about the Chantry, journals and fine-quality paper for letter-writing

How accessible is it? You are not allowed in there unless Vega is purposefully entertaining so don’t even BOTHER asking she will ASK YOU

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Vega takes her food and leaves quickly to go and eat in her room alone. It’s sad and alone behaviour. She would sit with somebody if they asked her to but why would you ask her to

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Bathe? Around other people?? Absolutely not

What's their hygiene like? Neat and tidy, clothes well-kept and very fine, hair usually done up. This is all performed out of habit rather than done out of preference

Anything else? If post-it notes existed, she would be the roommate who leaves passive aggressive messages on the communal fridge

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? She is new, and has not seen much of Kirkwall, so she probably spends time exploring, or poking around the Gallows in between writing frantically to home (the letters are being ignored)

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Does Vega have fun? Does she even know what ‘fun’ is? This remains to be seen. She spends time in the training yards with her bow, and she seems to love taking care of and riding her horse. She also likes to haunt that chapel on the ground floor of the Gallows for some reason

What's common knowledge about their social life? Still very new. I think five people now have realised that she sucks and is a mage, so feel free to have heard about either of those things from somebody else

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? The ferryman dislikes her for bringing the horse onboard that one time but aside from that, nobody knows her. And she does not know them. Fifi had to tell her about the Battle of Kirkwall

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? MRA (mage rights activist)

Anything else? Actually, the only mage that deserves rights is herself but I really wanted to make that joke

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Vega is in Scouting

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Nothing regularly yet but she would do extra duties if asked to

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Oh you’ll know when she’s in the Gallows, by the angry breathing

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Desk in the Scouting office: very neat and tidy, but also sparse because she is new. She has a very fine ink and quill setup

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Vega is very into archery, and into fencing, and can be weird about training (she wants to do it alone, so go away), but she could easily be coaxed into competitions or sparring matches if you character is interested. All they have to do is insinuate she’s weak it’s literally that easy

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Language lessons could be on the table if you play your cards right. She would teach dancing, or correct fencing form or assist with archery skills if she saw somebody doing laughably bad at any of those things in her vicinity

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Imagine a screaming baby

Anything else? She isn’t actually that bad. Well, mostly. She is good at doing what she’s told to do and while she’s happily rude and snippy to people her own age, she generally respects her elders and will not say anything horrible. To their faces. She’s really desperate for a chance to prove herself or to seem useful

    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Has a single room in the Gallows shared with Ruadh, his mabari.

What might neighbors notice? His absence, probably.

Ellis generally a very quiet, considerate neighbor, but since Granitefell has opted for extended stretches of field work, and simply been gone.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Nothing, because the door is kept closed.

What about inside? Very neat. Sparsely decorated, and most of the items he believes to be most precious to him have been packed away. There is a little stack of books on the floor easily scoped, but most everything else is out of sight.

How accessible is it? Wysteria the only person presently in Thedas with entry access. Otherwise, he will meet people looking for him or seeking his company elsewhere in the Gallows. Sure, someone could have caught sight of the room over his shoulder while he was occupying the doorway, but he's unlikely to give any guided tours.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Eats in the dining hall. Has decent table manners, but probably some stumbling blocks like using his fingers for certain dishes or elbows on the table, but nothing too egregious. Prefers to eat alone. Noose usually draped over his feet while he's eating.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Has used the public baths, but will vacate them rather than share the space with anyone else. Habitually chooses times when he knows most people are occupied elsewhere, ie regular dinner time or during a party. He is very utilitarian about public nudity, but Riftwatch tends to host a lot of people prone to asking nosy questions about scars and otherwise, so Ellis opts to minimize opportunity for that.

What's their hygiene like? Clean. Nothing fancy. Beard neatly trimmed, curls tended to. Scrubs up regularly but full on baths are not a daily occurrence. Tends toward woodsy, musky scents for beard oil and soaps.

Anything else? Local Warden continues slow slide into cryptid territory.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? When Ellis is present in Kirkwall, his off-time is absolutely spent tending to Wysteria's haunted house. He has a list of home-improvement projects, and barnyard creatures to raise. It's an ongoing undertaking.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Reads. Ellis reads pretty widely, even if he doesn't fully understand everything he's engaging with. Has been known to do some basic sketches, but doesn't really pursue drawing as an actual hobby.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Obvious close connections are Wysteria (and Tony.)

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? There's a whole contingent of Kirkwall guards that Ellis is on very friendly terms with, and trains with when he's in the city.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Obvious Warden loyalties. (And complications connected to that largely unknown and unspoken of by him.)

Anything else? Ruadh sometimes a plus one to whatever Ellis is doing, sometimes a plus one to whatever Wysteria is doing, sometimes a secret third thing that is unknown.*

    * hanging out with Noose.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Forces member. Grey Warden. Generally tagged in for darkspawn handling, as well as any mission or assignment likely to involve some violence or carrying heavy stuff.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Guard duty. Takes a regular turn in the stables and with working with the griffons.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Rapid increase in how often and how long Ellis is absent from the Gallows post-Granitefall, with a further increase after Tony vanished. Ellis doesn't volunteer any information on this to anyone who isn't Wysteria, but if someone really went prying they could pretty easily figure out that Ellis is assisting with excursions in various spots around the Marches as requested.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Has never set foot in the Forces workroom, unclear if he is aware he has a desk there. When Ellis actually has to do paperwork, he usually does it at the kitchen table in Wysteria's haunted house.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Ellis practices pretty seriously with his giant fuck off mace. When he partners with someone, unless he views them as being a real match for him physically, he'll swap to a practice sword. Has given weapon instruction in the past to the willing and unwilling alike. Will offer help if sees someone struggling in a way dangerous to themselves or others, but generally will need to be asked directly for anything beyond that.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Weapons training!!! Can also advise on animal handling and will give non-classified darkspawn run downs to anyone in need.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Cannot overstate the degree to which Ellis presents as Just A Guy. He's quiet and focused, not much of a conversationalist, but generally someone dependable who does their work competently and without complaints.

Anything else? If you see Ellis anywhere in the Gallows it's safe to assume Ruadh and/or Noose are hot on his heels

    Wysteria, Research/Mediation Officer

    [personal profile] heirring 2024-02-27 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? Wysteria splits her time between a room in the Gallows (which she keeps for when she misses the last ferry back to Kirkwall) and her haunted (and extremely derelict) mansion in Hightown. She lives there with a maid (name unimportant; they're constantly quitting due to the aforementioned haunting and the general overwhelming state of the house and it's occupants), two dogs, six chickens, an Avvar goat, a giant Donarki ant, a modest colony of giant flesh eating Orzamarran beetles, a Silent Plains lizard and, on occasion, her husband.

What might neighbors notice? The Hightown neighbors notice enough chaos to despise her. Neighbors to the room Wysteria keeps in the Gallows will note that she's rarely in the room. When she is, she's usually crashing late enough at night that she's not actually awake for long—however is extremely clompy and annoyingly loud about moving about the space during that period. Frequently in the middle of crystal conversations.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? The Gallows room is a disaster and clearly functions as a third or fourth or fifth office space. The Hightown house is a decrepit mansion thats too big for one maid to clean, and defies Ellis' best efforts to stay ahead of its renovation requirements. A sign is posted on the front door which reads STRICTLY NO PERSONS ACCEPTED AT THIS DOOR. SEE SIDE ENTRANCE.

What about inside? See above. Disaster zones, all. The Gallows room has a terrible black stain on the floor poorly hidden by a tatty rug. The Hightown house has a few rooms which have been heroically rescued by Ellis' hard work and Wysteria's enthusiastic redecorating and the subsequently scratched and scuffed by herds of animals. Most parts of the house are cluttered, ominously dusty, and make weird noises. Best not to spend much time in those rooms.

How accessible is it? Wysteria loves guests.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Wysteria eats almost all meals in the Gallows. It's budget conscious! She's up excessively early, and is usually one of the first people there for the various meal time.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Absolutely not.

What's their hygiene like? Wysteria is neat and tidy, with the exception of ink stains on her fingers and trace suggestions of whatever project she's working on. Her hairdo tends to start to fall down over the course of the day. Smells like wildflowers and honey in the summer and cedar chips in the winter.

Anything else? Wysteria is currently not wearing her prosthetic arm.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Wysteria has a packed social calendar, which includes harassing her solicitor, harassing her husband's solicitor, writing a great deal of personal letters (she keeps friends all over Thedas from her various field work trips), busy bodying around Hightown and Lowtown, dealing with the Carta for lyrium experiment supplies, and sometimes having a nice night out on the town if she can trick someone into going with her. All her closest friends these days are annoyingly anti-fun???? But lots of late workroom nights.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Wysteria seems to do Research work for fun. It's EXCITING!!!!

What's common knowledge about their social life? Wysteria was close with Tony Stark, and since his departure, Ellis' frequent absences, and her husband dojng whatever it is Val's doing, it seems like her social circle has shrunk considerably. Most often found in the company of Viktor (who she is still arguing with!!!) or Jayce while doing work, but otherwise seems to be flying mostly solo these days. It's fine!!! It probably doesn't bother her!!!

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? Wysteria's neighbors hate her. The merchants either resent or appreciate her depending on the day and how free she's being with her money (not very) or Riftwatch's money (often excessively very). She has friends among the dwarven craftfolk, and others who would rather die than be trapped in a room with her. Various minor city officials hate her.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Wysteria seems to be mostly neutral on most topics, though has maybe made one or two remarks these seem to slant in the direction of Loyalist mage opinions. That said, she is clearly very passionate about winning thebwar against Corypheus.

Anything else? She's been more snippy than usual lately.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Research; mad science.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Wysteria is the the Mediation Officer, and is meant to mediate conflict in Riftwatch. In practice, she mostly uses the post to collect gossip and lecture people.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Rest assured that she's in the Gallows during ordianrybworkiing hours, or even later, but finding her in the fortress can often be difficult. Is she in her office? Is she in her room? Is she in the work rooms, or the old Project Felandaris office, or the library, or testing something in the courtyard, or—

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? See above. As chaotic as it sounds.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Nope, unless she or someone else is testing something offensive or defensive in need of testing.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? How to identify the right person in a leadership position to harass for money. Unsettling Rifter origin conspiracy theories. Some fun dances, both Thedosian and Other.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Shrill. Has made a lot of cool stuff during her time in Research. Has also made a lot of alarming stuff.

Anything else? Wysteria is almost constantly accompanied by a small, allegedly white dog named Tabouret (Tab, for short). She is occasionally also in the company of Ellis' Mabari, Ruadh.

Where does your character live? With whom? Desidério lives in the former Templar tower, third floor. He's Vanya's neighbor.

What might neighbors notice? Desi sleeps in late, stays out late, and isn't a particularly loud neighbor with the exception of when he's chatting over the crystal (boisterous conversationalist and/or loudly argumentative). Mostly doesn't spend a whole lot of time in his room. It's depressing.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? His door is mostly open when he's in (and not sleeping), and locked tight when he's out.

What about inside? Desi has a room that should sleep two, but has contrived to strip out most of the second set of furniture. No one look in any nearby storage closets. He's turned the other half of the room into a sitting-ish area (no one ask where that furniture came from). Vibes are exceptionally under decorated and over crowded, the traditional aging frat boy aesthetic. There are a lot of swords and knives. Like too many??

How accessible is it? Door's open, come on by.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Only when desperate. HAS endeared himself to the kitchen staff so he gets the good shit if he gets down early (which he never does).

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? He does, but is quietly scandalized if there are women around. Otherwise, whatever, check out his cool scar(s).

What's their hygiene like? Clean technically, but in a rougishly scruffy way. Tends to have a little schmutz under his fingernails.

Anything else? Desi almost always wears a big dueling glove on his left hand. His right hand, which has the anchor in it, is usually either bare or wearing a normal close cut glove.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Desi is picking up odd jobs in Kirkwall (of the sniffing out info, spying, and endearing himself to rich people variety), slumming it in Lowtown public houses, fighting in duels for cash, or people watching. Loves to observe mess, and Kirkwall is prime mess.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Gossips. Duels. Gets into arguments. Thinks up and abandons get rich quick schemes. Sees how many knives he can get to stick in the ceiling of his room.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Desi's personable, but not particularly in the nice or kind sense. Seems to like to hear himself talk, but equally enthusiastic to hear the people so it evens out. Probably.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? He's too new to Kirkwall to really have much of a reputation, which is AN ISSUE to him personally. Has befriended (??) a cadre of street urchins who he pays for local intel.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Nope. He seems to like playing devil's advocate though.

Anything else? He likes nice things, but in a disposable way. Loves to get a new coat, tends to ruin them, etc. Smokes cigarillos, and is mad about the fact that he can't get his preferred varietal of tobacco.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Scouting division.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? He's a professional snoop, and assumes that his extracurriculars of fucking around Kirkwall BASICALLY count as work, right?? He's learning important stuff about Kirkwall politics or whatever.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Desi does a lot of field work, as long as that field work involves traipsing around population centers. The Gallows is boring. Camping sucks.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? He doesn't know he has a desk. If someone told him, he promptly opted to forget.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? For someone who is otherwise extremely noncommittal, Desi spends a strict amount of time in the training hard. Actual times vary, but the volume of hours is consistent. He apparently takes his swordsmanship Very Seriously, even though most of his training looks like fucking around or challenging other people in the yard to scrap with him. Notable for being actually extremely good with a sword.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? How to eavesdrop on people without being noticed, the fine art of finger breaking, how to tell good wine from shit wine, how to break a variety of locks. Spoil him with something nice or be exceedingly pathetic and he might consider playing teacher.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Gives the impression of being slightly flaky and unreliable—here for a good time, not for a long time—, but tends to be weirdly effective.

Anything else? He wants a stipend for discretionary palm greasing in the field.

Yseult, Head of the Scouting Division

    [personal profile] hassaran 2024-02-29 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? In the Scouting suite with Darras Rivain and a grey tabby cat named Rosana who comes and goes as she pleases.

What might neighbors notice? Her office light can usually be seen under the door for at least a couple hours both before and after business hours. She's a pretty quiet neighbor, but Darras plays the guitar sometimes in the evening and every once in a while someone might hear her laugh from behind the door but it was probably just the wind.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? Her office door is open a crack when she's available for impromptu meetings (or expecting someone), and often open all the way in the summer to try to get a crossbreeze. She keeps it neat and well-lit. A fan of fresh air when weather allows, but keeps it fairly warm in the winter.

What about inside? The office half is informally divided into two spaces: nearer the door is the large wooden desk she inherited from her predecessor, surrounding shelves of files, a map table. She keeps things tidy, mess is limited to the work-in-progress/overstuffed inbox variety. The back of the room is more of a seating area, with chairs in front of the hearth, tea table, couch by the window, etc. It's all tastefully appointed in blues and grays, nice but not extravagant. There are some landscape paintings, mostly seascapes. The second door into the private half of the suite is pretty much always closed. If anybody ever got a split-second glimpse as the door was shut they'd see a corner of a four-posted bed with curtains, but the rest is a mystery.

How accessible is it? Everyone can have seen her office at some point in the course of their work or at least in passing while visiting other Division Heads. She'll occasionally debrief people over tea by the fire instead of at her desk. Nobody gets into the private space, and the very few people who she'd less obsessively shut the door around know who they are.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? She tries to average at least one meal a day in the dining hall, most often either breakfast or lunch, and otherwise often eats at her desk or is on the go in Kirkwall. Occasionally she'll have meetings over a meal, or linger over her food while reading reports. Otherwise she eats neatly and briskly. Doesn't seem to be picky, but tends toward eating lightly.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Rarely since she has a private bath, but every once in a while will stop and soak on return from a mission. Probably won't stay if there are more than a few people present but just because she prefers quiet. She clearly does not care about being naked in front of people or vice versa. Will ignore scrutiny up to a point but if anybody looks egregiously she will make eye contact until they get uncomfortable.

What's their hygiene like? Impeccable. Her usual soap smells lightly of rosemary and lavender.

Anything else? Rosana the cat wanders the Gallows and gets along well with dogs, in small doses.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? What's that? No she does take a little especially starting in the last few months since Granitefall, but it's mostly spent behind closed doors or, if she's out in Kirkwall she tries to avoid places other Riftwatchers go.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? She reads, which could be guessed by the number of books around the suite and occasionally left on the sofa or end table or something in view. They could be anything. She has a little slackline stand Bastien got her that lives in a corner of her office when it's not in use; she'd explain what it is if asked. She could be spotted at the theater or having dinner with Darras in Kirkwall if somebody is very familiar with charming hole in the wall restaurants serving Antivan/Rivaini/eastern-coast-Marches cuisine. They go dancing sometimes, but that is a secret. She's friends with Pockets the griffon and visits to play with her and go flying for fun to maintain a bond with this valuable resource creature.

What's common knowledge about their social life? She doesn't advertise it but by this point anybody curious enough to ask around could find out she's referred to Darras as her husband. Friendly with Bastien (that they met before Riftwatch is no longer a secret) and, these days, Flint. Used to play at Fitcher's card nights sometimes.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? There are a few of the aforementioned restaurants where she's greeted like a regular, and she has some sources here and there, but otherwise she does her best to go unnoticed.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Generally in favor of saving lives and preventing collateral damage to regular people wherever possible, otherwise seems fairly neutral and pragmatic. Prioritizes beating Corypheus and winning the war over specific political goals.

Anything else? good lord this is long

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Scouting.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? No.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? In the Gallows about 65% of the time. 35% of the time in the field, doing work that's somewhat mysterious in that she doesn't announce it and usually works alone, but the info is available if people read the reports she files. These days that work is usually in Minrathous.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Neat desk, but neat in the active way of a workaholic with orderly habits who is narrowly keeping up with a perpetually full inbox and is tidy for sanity's sake, not obsessively pin-straight. Does at least one morning and one afternoon per week working at her desk in the Scouting workroom just to be conspicuously available / see what other people are doing.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Yes, early in the morning knife throwing, stabbing dummies, some archery especially with a small crossbow, interspersed with calisthenics or sprints or climbing up some walls or something to make it harder. She always looks like she has a set routine even if the individual elements change. Will spar with people, but they'd have to ask her so I assume it doesn't happen often.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Accents. Lockpicking. Disguise. Following people/spotting and losing tails. Close quarters fighting for people who usually aren't going to have a strength or size advantage. She'll do language conversation practice with people already learning but can't teach the actual languages themselves. She will sometimes offer these things if it comes up in connection to work that needs doing, or if someone expressed a general interest in learning in her hearing, but her time is limited so it'd have to be people who have already proven themselves to Riftwatch/her in some respect. For language or fighting they'll need to already know the basics so that she can be getting something out of the practice too.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Professional, reserved, dedicated. Her reputation seems to've built her up as cold and inscrutable but those who've worked with her directly will find that's a bit exaggerated--she can be tough to read but she's mostly just private, careful in her speech, and very focused on the work.

Where does your character live? With whom? On the fourth floor of the former Templar tower, in room D, with Marcus Rowntree, Petrana de Cedoux, and Vysvolod (Petrana's dog).

What might neighbors notice? See Petrana's post for Vysvolod shenanigans of which Julius is largely blissfully unaware. Is this because Vysvolod knows Julius likes dogs more than Marcus does? Jury's out. Julius himself is not home very much during the day, but is rarely away overnight unless he's on a field mission. The three humans in the room are polite and quiet except for the sex. (He's not especially sorry, but then, he spent his entire young adulthood locked in a much smaller tower than this one.)

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? large dog + cigarette smoke

What about inside? Tidy, though they've acquired some more personal items given the relatively lengthy tenures of all the occupants.

How accessible is it? They very rarely entertain in their room. For Julius's part, he prefers to have work meetings in his office or the division work space, and tends to favor personal occasions over meals or out in Kirkwall proper.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Speaking of meals! Julius is a midday meal regular, often using it to catch up with colleagues or chat with friends. He makes a point of eating lunch at a normal time to catch people by chance, and tries to mix up who he sits with. He frequently reserves the evening meal for one or both of his romantic partners, and does not routinely eat breakfast.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Now that he has a private tub, not frequently, but before that he used the public baths regularly and seemed fairly used to it.

What's their hygiene like? Julius is not overly fastidious, but pays attention to his cleanliness and neatness overall. He generally has the air of a man aware of the impression he is making.

Anything else? These days, he's about 60-40 on wearing mage robes or not in his everyday life; depending on what he's doing, this can tilt one way or another.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? Julius is extremely bad at remembering to take any off time, except (now) for dates. If gently prodded, he's happy to make plans with other people he likes too, it just won't occur to him to suggest those most of the time.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Julius is a big reader, and the line between "for work" and "for pleasure" tends to be a fuzzy one. When he's out and about, he also quite enjoys listening to music and taking long, meandering walks, especially with a coastal view. (He has never had a pina colada, but would probably enjoy it if he had the opportunity.)

What's common knowledge about their social life? Julius is still not huge on PDA, but has loosened up about it since beginning to date Marcus, so it's fairly common knowledge he is involved with Marcus and Petrana. He's certainly not trying to actively hide it, despite calling his partners by their titles in conversations with third parties. Beyond that, Julius is known to be warm and personable; easy to chat with, though perhaps hard to get to know deeply. Those who've been with the organization a long time may know he lived in Gwenaëlle's home once years ago, but it's very obvious from the vibe that they're not exes.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? Julius cultivates some connections in Kirkwall as part of his work, and occasionally as Petrana's plus-one in Hightown. That said, his work keeps him the Gallows more often than not, and a lot of his Diplomacy work takes the form of correspondence.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? It's a matter of public record that he's stopped describing himself as a Loyalist and has Many Thoughts about the future of mages. That said, he's also less aggressively anti-Templar than many Circle mages have been and tends to regulate what he says about the Chantry in mixed company.

Anything else? Guys, he's so much better at understanding money now.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Speaking of being better with money, Julius is the new seneschal. He was previously the longtime head of Project Sashamiri and continues to work on many of the same threads unofficially now that it's been folded into regular division work. He's a member of Diplomacy but regularly sticks his nose into Research.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? His normal job keeps him pretty busy, but he takes any chore rotations assigned without complaint.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? Julius is fairly Gallows-bound unless out on assignment. He'll take one-off day trips into Kirkwall, but he's almost always back well before the last ferry.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? He has recently located to his new office reflecting his new job. Julius's office is very clearly a working office, with a great deal of correspondence, notes, and books. That said, it's organized, and he can quickly put his hands on anything he needs. He often takes tea in his office in the afternoons.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? He does some sparring in the courtyard, mainly to keep himself limber and in shape. He tends to mainly spar with other mages, though if non-mages want practice dealing with a magic user in combat, he's willing to engage with that. (Warily, after the time he accidentally hurled someone across the pitch with force magic, oops.)

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? He's always happy to talk magic with anyone who is interested. Julius has also given literacy lessons before and would be willing to do so again. He's never taught foreign languages but knows a few well enough he'd be willing to teach them. Honestly, his background as a teacher isn't deep beneath the surface, and it's very easy to get him back into that mode.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Julius is warm and friendly but also can be intense. He's a workaholic and sometimes forgets (not maliciously) that other people would enjoy things like "downtime" or "sleeping in." He holds Riftwatch agents, especially those who've done work for him, to very high standards, though it's obvious he holds himself to even higher ones. On the whole, not unpleasant, but also my guy, please relax a little bit, maybe?

Where does your character live? With whom? Third floor of the former templar tower, in between Viktor and Desidério, with Jayce down the hall.

What might neighbors notice? Vanya is a very quiet neighbor, so probably not much. He tends to be an early riser and is often out of his room not much after sunrise.

What can people tell about your character's living space from outside? From the outside, it may not be entirely clear that the room is occupied whenever the door is closed. When it's open...

What about inside? ... Vanya has spent the vast majority of his adult life living in either barracks or temporary lodgings. This has resulted in him having very few personal possessions; he can keep most of them, other than weapons and armor, in a foot locker, and he does. The room is also impeccably neat. "Former" templar means giving up lyrium and taking orders from the Chantry but not, evidently, hospital corners.

How accessible is it? Vanya doesn't routinely invite people to his room, not because he's protective of it but because he can't imagine why anyone would want to go there. Unless anyone is willing to say their character pressed, it's probably just not come up.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? Barring any changes to his routine because of work, you could set your watch by the three times a day Vanya is in the dining hall. This is extra impressive as he, himself, does not own a watch. He'll sit with people he's friendly with if they're present, but otherwise not fussed about sitting alone. He's unlikely to ask if he can sit with someone he doesn't already know a bit, but on the other hand, if an extrovert pulls him in, he won't resist.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What's that like? Routinely uses the public baths, probably about once every third day unless he's gotten particularly dirty for some reason. He doesn't tend to luxuriate, but nor does he rush, taking a businesslike approach.

What's their hygiene like? He's relaxed just slightly from military organization standards, but he's still clearly aware of his hygiene and keeps it up. He doesn't tend to use scented products or anything cosmetic beyond the basics of soap and water.

Anything else? In general, his routine when he's in the Gallows is very predictable. Anyone who cares to observe can probably guess where he'll be when, unless he's out on field work.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? If there's places to volunteer to help, he'll usually devote his off time to that. If people chase him away or impress that breaks are required, he'll tend to take a ride (horse or griffon) if the weather is fair.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? In addition to the aforementioned animal bonding time, he's started poking about in the kitchens strictly at times they're not in use. After the embarrassing pancake situation, he's been trying to master some recipes that are more palatable than "meal that will keep you alive on the road." He can also be talked into a chess game if anyone cares to try.

What's common knowledge about their social life? Vanya has been with Riftwatch long enough to have "amiable coworker" relationships with a few people (the young rifter lesbian polycule; Ellis, when he was around more; Gela a bit, since Granitefell). He still doesn't seem especially close to anyone, though, and keeps to himself unless actively encouraged not to.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? It is very likely that no one in Kirkwall remembers him at all unless you go "You know. The tall one with the vertical lines on his face?" and then some of them might go "oh, yeah, him." He tips well as a rule, but he just isn't in town enough to build many ties there.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? He will quietly but immediately correct anyone who refers to him as a templar without the "ex" in front of it. Still spends some time in the Gallows chapel, so his feelings on the Chantry are something of a question mark. Known to have had a mage lover in the past.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they're in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Forces, griffon rider

Do they regularly assist with anything else? takes a turn on the guard rota, has made a point to learn how the seige engines work, helps to groom the organization's animals, and is available if Nevarran translation is necessary (but there are enough Nevarrans in the organization this doesn't happen much)

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they're gone or is it a mystery? To the extent people don't know, it's just because they're not curious; he's incredibly diligent about notifying Flint if he's going to be gone at length. Most of the time, if it's not an assignment, it's for the aforementioned griffon or horseback rides in the countryside around Kirkwall.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what's it like? Vanya has a neat desk in the Forces work room that he uses almost exclusively for writing reports. Otherwise, he's generally in the eyrie, the training yard, or otherwise out and about within the Gallows.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Vanya is in the training courtyard almost daily. He has solo exercises, though he also will spar if anyone asks him. His main fighting style is sword and shield, but he has been seen practicing with two-handed blades, daggers, and even occasionally polearms.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? He wouldn't think to offer, but if anyone asks, he's happy to teach combat skills or griffon riding. He'd do Nevarran if pressed, though not without "surely someone else would be better at this" observations.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? Vanya is a quiet and conscientious member of Riftwatch who does all of his work on time and without complaining. He seldom puts himself forward in any way, but if asked to speak, he will give his opinion, and his tactical mind is sound. Anyone who hasn't seen him on a griffon or a horse may wonder if he ever relaxes, but the tension doesn't manifest in snappishness or impatience with others.

Anything else? While he doesn't go out of his way to mention it, the fact that he gave up lyrium isn't hard to learn.

congratulations to vanya on receiving the transitive property of fussing over an old man. with his clockwork appearances at the dining hall come an equally clockwork every-other-day check-in. he's not finishing this, did you want any? could you explain this report's implications? no he's got an idea about it but wanted to hear yours. he is banking on vanya being too polite to tell him "stop im like 45"

    LIVE

Where does your character live? With whom? By himself, in a single room on the templar tower’s fifth floor. He was very out-of-breath climbing all those stairs at first, but has built up stamina now.

What might neighbors notice? He’s a night owl and perpetual insomniac, which leads to some reckless candle expenditure and the light being on in his room at night as he’s often up late reading. Some of it is just being a workaholic and bookworm with revenge bedtime procrastination; some of it is due to chronic pain.

What can people tell about your character’s living space from outside? He’s rarely in during the day, but the door is almost always closed whether he is or isn’t.

What about inside? Perpetually tidy: clothes always folded and put away, bed always made, trinkets & keepsakes organised, the only real clutter being stacks of books across various surfaces. He always has a rotating assortment of books out on loan from the Riftwatch library.

How accessible is it? Private, not very accessible. Strange is very approachable in the office and when in professional work mode, but his home seems a different matter, and he rarely invites people in. If someone stops by to talk, there’s a chance he might invite them for a walk-and-talk instead. Glimpses are fine and he won’t react poorly or anything; it’s just the principle of the thing.

Do they eat in the dining hall? Which meals? Any observable eating habits? He sometimes eats in the dining hall and will swoop down on any friendlyish face he sees for company, but more often than not he’ll take it away to eat in the Research rooms or his office while working. He probably multitasks too much.

Do they bathe in the public baths? What’s that like? In and out as fast as possible. He hates this. He misses modern showers, and doesn’t like being naked in front of friends or relative strangers alike. When can we invent indoor plumbing already??

What’s their hygiene like? Clean, fastidious, tidy, well-groomed. The beard does get fuller and the goatie more disheveled in Thedas than it would’ve back home, since without an electric razor, he usually has to make the inconvenient trek into town to pay a barber for a shave; but generally Strange tries to stay kempt.

Anything else? The Cloak of Levitation came through in a rift with him but stays in a wardrobe in his room these days; he does often wear a similar-ish red cloak of Fade-touched silk instead.

    LAUGH

Where do they go during their off time? What’s off time. He usually pours free time into more work, but he also spars in the training yard to stay in shape, and might go to the library, into town, or visit Gwenaëlle’s houseboat.

What do they do for fun? What would people know about it? Reading. Likes music, so sometimes treats himself to a piano concert in Hightown, now that he’s being paid more. He used to spend some time tinkering with the garden, but that’s been outsourced to Tav now.

What’s common knowledge about their social life? He came from the same world as Tony Stark, and the two were friendly. Here, he’s weirdly private about his social life, but it’s probably most apparent that he gets along with Mobius, folks in Research generally, and the people who help out in the infirmary. Is lightly friendly with plenty, but it’s hard to dig beneath that surface.

Are they known by any NPCs in Kirkwall? Do they have a reputation among any particular sets of locals? For what? Mostly known amongst academic & research circles, particularly after the Riftwatch Cultural Exposition in Val Royeaux, for trying to push advancements in germ theory & medical treatment. Trying for a diplomatic program with Cosima to introduce scientific/medical principles to locals.

Any publicly known political opinions or sympathies? Pro-mage, pro-rifter, pro-science.

Anything else? Usually goes by ‘Strange’, but once you reach a certain friendship level he’ll let you call him Stephen.

    LORK

Remind everyone what division they’re in, any other job they have, and what they generally do. Research division, and Head Healer. Coordinates care in the field during combat, but also for everyday issues around the Gallows, diseases, pain management, trying to get people to wash their hands more, etc. He’s often in his office or the infirmary, and is a good port of call if you need some medical advice or assistance, even if his bedside manner isn’t great.

Do they regularly assist with anything else? Might still chip in with the garden sometimes, for growing medicinal herbs.

How often are they in the Gallows vs. working elsewhere? Do people know where they go when they’re gone or is it a mystery? Almost always in the Gallows when not on field assignment somewhere.

Where in the Gallows do they usually work? If they have a regular work space, what’s it like? Has a desk in the Research workroom, but since becoming Head Healer, he’s cleared it out and moved most of his stuff to his dedicated office, which is just as obsessively tidy and organised as his living space. Is usually there or at a desk in the infirmary. He also posts schedules at the infirmary so people know which days staff will be reachable in the Gallows.

Do they spend any time in the training courtyard? Doing what? Yes, and relatively often; mainly trains with a quarterstaff and hand-to-hand, although he’s trying to branch out into things with blades. Very open to sparring partners, even if he’ll wind up on his ass around someone more physically-capable.

What are some things they might teach other people how to do? Offers basic first aid to help keep the infirmary staffed. Please take his Riftwatch OSHA training.

What would their general reputation be, as a colleague? A sharp and competent doctor and hard worker, but also very brazenly a magic-using rifter who can be politically incautious sometimes and a little too chill with horrifying things. Talks a lot, a little arrogant, but he’s working on it. Perpetually curious about other rifter worlds and Thedosian backgrounds alike. Has a tendency towards reckless magic, but that paid off to help invent time travel when everyone died at Granitefell, so.

Anything else? Feel free to add yourself to the infirmary if your character has any first aid skills they would volunteer!
