i cannot believe this game is still going & still trying new, interesting things. extremely fortunate to have mods who have run the fucking marathon, i don't know how you guys keep coming up with plots and mechanics that push the world along, and i'm hopeful that veilguard gives you both a nice vidya break and a bunch of new ideas.

also continually thrilled by the ideas that players put forth, whether in mini plots or leadership or etc. love how willing everyone is to take a ball and run with it. i've seen a lot of different versions and eras of FR, but consistently, i think what i value most about it is how engaged everyone is with everyone else. they're not just your barbies, they're our barbies. neat! please take that one out of your mouth!

ammmy, i so deeply admire your chill ooc. you are so easy and amenable to plotting and chatting, and it was a delight to get to hang out with you a little in person this year. those bastards in nyc don't know how lucky they are.

i'm glad we have an excuse to rp more now, but i hope you know that i've enjoyed reading your threads more or less the entire time we've overlapped. i appreciate how many layers you give your characters, and how patient you can be in unveiling them, while still letting them inform all their background choices. i'm sure that a lot of that comes of having written them for so long, but it makes them feel like realer and well-rounded people.

that is one of the many things i appreciate so much about playing with you though: how down you are to clown, with consequences and big changes and complex cr. like i feel like i've known you long enough that we're just yodeling the same things back and forth every time this comes around, but i'm doing that because they're true. so here's one of the current ones i've been thinking about, which is how adept you are at switching the narrative voice in your tags. i would never mistake petra's narration for gwen's or athenais', they feel like they come from different stories because they do! neat!!

also i just so value our friendship ooc, you've been there thru rough times and good, and i can always count on you to provide a sanity check and a dick joke, only sometimes in that order. thanks for everything except pants unicorn

charlie!! i'm sorry that we didn't overlap longer, but i'm so glad to have seen a bit of ellie, both before and after my long FR pause. it was genuinely very neat to come back and see how fully she'd integrated into the game and developed past her entry point. i've also very much enjoyed going back and reading jude threads. i think you have a real knack for writing tags that are easy for other people to bounce off, and characters that are charismatic in a way that invites CR.

I love all of you so much and I'm so glad you're here and playing with us all these years later. ♥ ♥ ♥ On the mod side the game would never have lasted this long without so many creative, invested people pushing it forward—plus being so kind and so chill when we're late with things or have an experiment fail. And on the player side you're all delights to write with, so talented and funny across the board. And I'm in particular very grateful for how welcoming the game is to OCs, even players who don't typically play OCs themselves.

Cami recently pointed out to me that by the 10 year anniversary some of us will have been in FR for over a fourth of our lives, and on the one hand that's horrifying, but on the other, what a cool group of people to have spent 25% of my days being a geek with.

First and foremost, so much love to the mods. Not only for the many years of plot (truly, bless you), but also because you're always so willing to iterate and adjust and see what's working for the game as it is now. You've always had a door open if I was struggling with something OOCly or if I had an idea, and I appreciate that so, so much.

And to the game as a whole, I just love spending time and creative energy with this group. Everyone's OCs live in my head rent-free, as the kids say, and I appreciate how much everyone is enthusiastic about discovering what's fun to do together. The collaboration is really where it's at.

Special shout-outs off the top of my head for some plots, too: Granitefell, let's let the whole game deal with grief and also give your character a cinematic death but make it temporary; I'll Be Home for Riftmas, aka "Thedas characters learn to use firearms in TLOU and abuse emojis in several worlds that have texting"; The Darkest Realm of Dream, in which I got attached to both the dark future and the alternate timeline in different ways, whoops; the blood plague caused by lyriophages blood sharks; and truly too may others to list.

You know this, but for posterity: You get a special award for initially enabling me to app to Fade Rift when I knew absolutely zero things about Dragon Age. Clearly, that one worked out.

It's been so, so cool to get to develop CR over such a long time frame, and to watch your characters grow and change in response to their experiences. The longevity of this game has made for all sorts of opportunities and you always make the most of them. Can't wait to be here with you when, inevitably, I have to admit to myself that Julius has turned 50.

THAT SAID I'm so glad we've become friends! I realize I stalk more of your threads than I directly participate in, which is maybe something to correct in the future, but in the meantime, they're great? (Already dreading Redvers getting the ax, tbh, he's terrible and I love him.) All your characters are so different and I enjoy them all so much. I also loved getting the chance to confirm you're personally as much of a delight offline as you are online this year, which was not surprising, but was rad all the same.

i've said it before where you couldn't sprint away at top speed and i mean it now too, i frequently read your tags and find myself thinking about character details and how they fit into the world in a new way. you have a way of making characters feel at home in a setting. one of the things i've always liked about the DA games is how many tiny threads of lore are in there, sometimes as a one-off no one ever intended to develop, and you're really good at taking those and running with them in ways that flesh out a character's life and actively add to their story. i feel like that translates beyond just rp: i've never read original fiction from you, but i look at characters in it in a slightly different way now.

thanks for being such a big part of so many different characters' stories in fr, even outside of the mod stuff. you're always thinking about ways and mechanics to involve people, and i look forward to finding ways to hassle you in the coming year about your own wishlist. it was also very fun to hassle you irl, can't thank you enough for opening your home and dog to us, 10/10 trip entirely enabled by you. i hope you know how warm and funny you are irl as well as online.

JULIE it is wild to me that you're relatively new (at least by this game's timeline, lol) because it feels like we've already developed so much terrific CR. I can't wait to see where else it goes. You were immediately so personable that it made it really easy to reach out to you as our characters overlapped, and I am so relieved that you were down for me to pitch "what if all of my characters became Stephen's friends, actually?" And Astrid and Siegfried's burgeoning broship (nongendered) is equally a delight to me. I'm so glad you jumped into the game with both feet, and I hope you stick around a good long time.
