also continually thrilled by the ideas that players put forth, whether in mini plots or leadership or etc. love how willing everyone is to take a ball and run with it. i've seen a lot of different versions and eras of FR, but consistently, i think what i value most about it is how engaged everyone is with everyone else. they're not just your barbies, they're our barbies. neat! please take that one out of your mouth!

Cami recently pointed out to me that by the 10 year anniversary some of us will have been in FR for over a fourth of our lives, and on the one hand that's horrifying, but on the other, what a cool group of people to have spent 25% of my days being a geek with.

And to the game as a whole, I just love spending time and creative energy with this group. Everyone's OCs live in my head rent-free, as the kids say, and I appreciate how much everyone is enthusiastic about discovering what's fun to do together. The collaboration is really where it's at.
Special shout-outs off the top of my head for some plots, too: Granitefell, let's let the whole game deal with grief and also give your character a cinematic death but make it temporary; I'll Be Home for Riftmas, aka "Thedas characters learn to use firearms in TLOU and abuse emojis in several worlds that have texting"; The Darkest Realm of Dream, in which I got attached to both the dark future and the alternate timeline in different ways, whoops; the blood plague caused by
lyriophagesblood sharks; and truly too may others to list.no subject
Idk. You guys are great, you do a really solid (and impressively long-lasting) job modding this place and all of us, you're receptive to crazy suggestions and willing to help flesh them out. I'm so grateful for your energy and ideas and for you not closing this game two weeks after I joined it (thank you)
Plots that have stuck with me: Granitefell (what a RUSH), the event where Charlie and I got to take 3/4 of the game on a TLOU zombie apocalypse bender and the demon event starring Gela, which was crazy and fun and way harder to keep secret than I thought it was going to be, I've never done something like that before in a dwrp game and it was so thrilling!
My hopes and dreams are that Veilguard is a cool video game holiday for everybody and we all come back charged up and ready for more 💪💪💪

Like it's difficult to express how insane and cool it is to me that I moved across the country one year into this game's existence and, in the resulting eight years, have put down roots with a whole-ass irl community of friends that I met through Fade Rift. And I got to meet (and see again) so many of the non-WA ones this year! It's really special! You guys have made a special thing and I will always be grateful for it!
Also just, yknow, fucking around in Thedas always fun, but it's bigger than that for me and has been for a long time. Love you motherfuckers

Absolute props to MJ & Cass for carving out this sweet spot which feels like such an oasis in dwrp; I’m constantly telling friends about how great these mods are, and how fun and funny and stinking talented this playerbase is. I love that we operate on a mellow chill backtagging timeframe that works for us as tired adults, but that players are still so engaged and run so many player plots; it feels like a much more sustainable ebb-and-flow pacing and it’s kind of spoiled me forever.
For fave plots, I could name basically every major one since I joined, but I have an obvious soft spot for Granitefell, Riftsmas, the Gallows destruction to shake things up, and the Envy demon plot. idk if I can describe this well, but the latter really underscored what I love most here: IC Riftwatch feels like an actual population of real people whose plots all organically ripple outward and affect each other in an interwoven tapestry, which isn’t something I’ve really experienced in bigger games where characters can get lost in the background. It’s just special, ok.
The April fools/Christmas apps have also had me howling laughing. Why are you all so clever and funny. I love everyone in this bar.

fade rift has spoiled me. it is everything i want in a game! the way that this setting and the way we engage with it allows for characters to have real, meaningful stake and investment in what's happening - the choices that they make have meaning, the opinions that they hold have consequences, and the ripple effects of that are so interwoven. you can pluck a string and vibrate three others. the decisions and priorities of these characters have real influence and impact on the world around them! the structure of the game and its story and the way that we all work within it gives a depth that has been a rare gift to find in game spaces, and i love a lot the way past characters linger meaningfully in the narrative. that's so special.
i also love that it's not just the story that is impacted by the cast, but the way that our mods have pivoted and experimented and kept tabs on what works and what doesn't and when things need to shift; i think it's easy to view fade rift as old and set in its ways from the outside, but i think a huge element of our longevity is the way that the game has been constantly evolving for as long as its existed to reflect the needs and interests of the mods and the player base. it's one of the things i cite whenever i'm hyping us to new folks, and it's part of what i think makes it easier to feel that there's space for new folks. we didn't decide nine years ago what's what and fuck you if you weren't here for that. it is a living breathing game that grows!
i am grateful every day to everyone involved and mj and cass's leadership, cuz this is game was made for me drrrr drrr drrrr

Hopes and Dreams: an opportunity to use icons of this kid from an episode of Grey's Anatomy that I randomly saw on tiktok because she looks exactly like Clarisse's PB. I'm not asking for a deaging event I'm just showing you this perfect PB for a deaged Clarisse. that's it.

ammmy, i so deeply admire your chill ooc. you are so easy and amenable to plotting and chatting, and it was a delight to get to hang out with you a little in person this year. those bastards in nyc don't know how lucky they are.
i'm glad we have an excuse to rp more now, but i hope you know that i've enjoyed reading your threads more or less the entire time we've overlapped. i appreciate how many layers you give your characters, and how patient you can be in unveiling them, while still letting them inform all their background choices. i'm sure that a lot of that comes of having written them for so long, but it makes them feel like realer and well-rounded people.
also ket lives on in my heart

cella you are so funny and fun to play with. i've been dropping the ball a bit on ooc communication lately, so i hope that you know how easy you are to talk to and that i intend to do more of it!! that's a threat.
i've really enjoyed seeing you throw hermione into things, it feels like she already is establishing a place in the game and i look forward to carving into it further with more CR.

charlie!! i'm sorry that we didn't overlap longer, but i'm so glad to have seen a bit of ellie, both before and after my long FR pause. it was genuinely very neat to come back and see how fully she'd integrated into the game and developed past her entry point. i've also very much enjoyed going back and reading jude threads. i think you have a real knack for writing tags that are easy for other people to bounce off, and characters that are charismatic in a way that invites CR.
hope life is treating you and the kiddos well!

THAT SAID I'm so glad we've become friends! I realize I stalk more of your threads than I directly participate in, which is maybe something to correct in the future, but in the meantime, they're great? (Already dreading Redvers getting the ax, tbh, he's terrible and I love him.) All your characters are so different and I enjoy them all so much. I also loved getting the chance to confirm you're personally as much of a delight offline as you are online this year, which was not surprising, but was rad all the same.

here's some further love:
you write beautifully, you came up with a spooky and AMAZING and complex player plot that has left me in fucking awe, and your characters are both complex and unfairly gorgeous - you know what you're doing there.

hey dork. i can't believe we've known each other for like EIGHT YEARS, most of that in person. that's bonkers. moving back from canada right when you moved up here still feels a bit like serendipity - you've been such a big part of establishing an adult community for myself and i'm very grateful for your friendship all this time. i know that even when the going gets rough you'll be there to talk stuff out, bounce ideas, and shoot the shit, and try to put together a puzzle in the fucking dark. it's been a real treasure to get to see you grow professionally and personally. also to see your cute baby.
rp-wise, man, what a long tenure in game. it's been exciting to see barrow & benedict in particular grow from the places where they started, and acquire like. responsibilities (ew). always appreciate how down you are to do stupid shit and write unpleasant people with me, as you well know. i'm going to throw your dolls out the window when you're not looking. bye

it's hard to believe that we still have so many people from the game's early, early days. it's been neat to watch character rosters evolve over that time, and to see what themes persist. is mobius sort of church and malcolm's weird baby? i think you could make that argument.
obviously, church made an impact as a rifter, but your continuing focus in the ways that characters can be adapted to the native setting definitely adds an interesting lens to all their interactions. i think one of my favourite things about playing with AU'd characters is seeing how and what people decide to keep, and the way that those changes propel them in new directions. some day i'll have to go back and read what all thedas mobius made of the mcu riftmas.
