'Twas the night before DA4, and all through the house, we found ourselves wondering, is a nug analogous to a mouse?

 

The writers were fired, Cullen’s VA got weird, ten years have passed, and most of us are still here.

So as our computers overheat, none of them upgraded since Inquisition, we say thanks to the mods, still here of their own volition.

Here’s to a near decade of waiting, roleplaying, and friends, through tags and logs and only a few dropped threads.

May we all enjoy Veil Guard, a Thedas unfamiliar and unknown, though ‘Fade Rift’ has the cooler name, if I may say so.

how to play:

1. tag with a toplevel for your characters. (possibly include division + projects for ease of identifying coworkers!)
2. reply to other's tags with what your character got theirs for satinalia.
3. rake in those approval or disapproval points. we support both friend- and rival- mances.

As a member of Diplomacy, Ness will receive a small packet of brightly-coloured, powdered dye, easily deployed by opening or tearing. It accompanies a request to test it on a member of Scouting or Forces this Satinalia. Results may be reported back to Caius, or Gwenaelle for a small reward *

Presented in person, a small, ornate locked cabinet with key; when opened, it contains a sample selection of perfumed Orlesian hair oils available in Val Royeaux and five different purple hair ribbons shaded from pastel lilac to deep royal, and violet.

Satinalia's the Feast of the Moon — well, one of them — and she'd said candles and prayers for that. So it's candles and prayers delivered, in a little wood box someone's done their best to sand the delivery stamp off (tea, from the particular importer who supplies Diplomacy's bribe stash).

The tapers are rolled thin, and dyed purple. Bit of that's come off to stain the parchment, where written in a familiar, painstaking block print are a few verses from the Canticle of Trials regarding grief. Beside them, the Nevarran version; annotated where it differs slightly from the Trade.

A big ol' hat, folded out of copies of the Hangman's Papers and jammed on her head in the dining hall one morning.

A reference list of titles that she found particularly useful in the first year she spent with the Inquisition (as well as where to find them), and a small selection of seasonal fruits. Left on Ness's desk with a signed note from Mme de Cedoux.

A second-hand copy of On the Glassworks of the Marquisate of Serault by Philliam, a Bard!. The attached note: Do remember to take a night off every now and then, though.

For those working under him, Julius gifts a sachet of mulling spices to fancy up cider or wine over the winter, as well as a small holiday bonus in coin. With Ness's sachet, he includes a short list of a few local ciders that are especially good served warm and where in Kirkwall she might be able to find them.

A slim volume of Nevarran history; the little text that the book contains is in Nevarran, but when opened, most of the book turns out to be reproductions of elaborate and beautiful woodcuts. As an inscription, he's written: "Happy Satinalia; may it be the first of many you celebrate. - V Orlov."

Written down on scrap paper, then tied together to resemble a small book, are notes of a whole new world. This is left wrapped in plain paper and tied with a string on Ness' bed, with the note:

I hope to see a year when fancier gifts are possible, but in the meantime - I thought you might find these fascinating, if no-one else.

Ness gets a leather bookmark with leaves imprinted along the border.

Though he's earmarked this one for closer investigation at a later date, the night before Satinalia, Ness's usual dream of being lost and alone in the library is interrupted. It isn't her father -- out of a kneejerk wariness, Caius has asked specifically that it not resemble her father -- but a woman a little older than she is now, with shades of someone she might have a positive childhood memory of, and shades of a house servant she doesn't know at all. At times the woman may look a little like the Spymaster, the Provost, or even Madame de Cedoux. Her shoes are simple, her skirt bounces voluminously when she walks, and she has been looking everywhere for Ness -- how worried she was, but how clever Ness is at hiding!

She gathers the girl at a wide library table overflowing with books and asks her help with a mountain of research. The questions themselves are lost to dream logic, but they aren't easy; the woman scrutinizes her answers carefully, and does not give praise unearned -- but Ness does earn it time and again, perhaps sweeter or more real for the effort spent. There may or may not be a few gold stars involved. A spirit of accomplishment has many favors to bestow.

In her pidgeonhole she leaves: a handsewn sachet with tiny drawstring and a small jar of tea. The blend is homemade! It literally has bits of stick in it.
