It was one of the rare moments I had managed to get some time alone, even Dorian was away. I cried for a good long time. Once I was at a party with a young lady at home who was attached to some dreadful young man who took exception to the two of us enjoying the company of one another; I was in a very beautiful dress of course since she was a noble girl inviting me to a gathering of merchants and such. Insults were hurled and the only proper way to settle it was with a duel, I wasn't about to let some puffed up merchant's boy call out my reputation. If his lady love wanted others in her bed and came looking for me than that wasn't my fault, especially when I wasn't even aware of the existence of that young man. He was all flash and no substance – what we call a swordtail, zipping about as if they are the brightest things – but he was in the dirt whimpering before I was out of breath, and I was in a corset and a heavy gown. I gave him a little cut on the cheek because there are rules, and enjoyed the rest of my evening (and my morning!) with his lady as he ran away with his tail between his legs.
