crystal malfunction memevent

crystals get fucked
(a meme slash tiny game event)

The Inquisition’s sending crystals are typically very reliable and not susceptible to accidental transmissions or misdelivered messages. They’re also fairly limited in function and security.

The latter is something that researchers in Skyhold are working to address, when they have the time. Unfortunately, one of them—maybe a little angry about having to work alone on First Day, maybe day drinking while she does so—has now made some significant errors while meddling with proposed improvements. And from the beginning of the day on Wintermarch 1, the sending crystals will start behaving badly:

  • Messages might transmit to the wrong person.
  • Messages might transmit to the right person but also a few additional unintended people.
  • Messages might transmit to everyone at once.
  • Pieces of old conversations from any point in the last year or so might leak, either to individuals or to everyone. Delayed messages of that sort will sound distant, like they’re coming from the end of a long tunnel.
  • Attempts to transition from a public to a private conversation will sometimes fail.
  • Crystals may start transmitting to people or to everyone at random, without being touched.
  • All of this could occur at any time—sometimes at the beginning of a conversation, sometimes midway through it, sometimes when someone isn’t using the crystal at all.

The problems will start out sporadic enough to seem insignificant or like probable user errors, but grow increasingly common as the day wears on, until the issue is identified and corrected at Skyhold in the early hours of Wintermarch 2 and the tipsy researcher disciplined accordingly.

This meme/event is game canon. You can decide among yourselves if there’s something you would rather try out for fun with no consequences and/or retcon after the fact, as always, but unless otherwise established by players, this is really happening. Threads done in this post can count toward activity rewards.

Additionally, this specific post is for open top-levels that anyone can tag and threadjack. Think TFLN in style/format, missing pants optional. Don’t post closed or locked conversations here. If you want to do specific misfires with specific people, you can use inboxes. You can also post to the rookery comm if you want to use the event for a more visible gamewide open post.

I can be both a lady and a surgeon.

Yeah, but you said that wasn't about enjoying yourself. You said it was about politics or whatever.

Do you know anything of Nevarra?

Only from Nikos and Kostos. It's - death-focused, all that.

Ah, you know my cousins. [ A hum. ] Somewhat. Power is a little unstable and most families seek more. Having a daughter of marrying age is a political tool.

Okay, but you're clearly not interested in that.

I am the only daughter. It is my duty to marry and have children.

Yeah? And if you'd asked my mum and dad, my duty was to keep my head down and become someone's secretary. Who cares what other people want for you?

Then your... Mum and dad are kinder than some. I care because it is my duty to care.

They chucked me out of their house, actually. For not doing what they wanted of me.

    [ Fiercely: ]

No, I don't, actually. 'Cause them chucking me out was good. 'Cause it meant I didn't have to try and run after their approval any longer. No one should have any say in who you are but you.

I am glad you were able to find such independence, madame. [ Her voice is soft, but stern. ] It is not something achievable for everyone else.
    rathercommon: (haughty as anything)

    [personal profile] rathercommon 2019-01-02 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is. All that you've got to do is be willing to give up your fancy clothes and your lofty title.

    [personal profile] rathercommon 2019-01-02 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, you nobles are all so dramatic. Fine; tell me or don't. Just remember that wealth isn't actually some sort of burden, like rich people pretend it is. And if it is, you can just cast it off, can't you.

    [personal profile] indissection 2019-01-02 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
When did I ever mention my wealth? I have no money, madame, other than what the Inquisition gives me. Perhaps you should consider your audience before you speak.
    rathercommon: (are you insane)

    [personal profile] rathercommon 2019-01-02 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Wealth, power, title, whatever. It's all really the same in the end. And I'm not madame, I'm Kitty.

They are not the same at all. [ Sourly. ] Your ignorance shows you as a fool and little else.

Sure. Look, just because I'm saying true things that you hate 'cause they're true, that's no reason to be hostile to me.

I never denied that they are true for some. It is simply clear you cannot truly empathise with the situation I am in.
